The Los Angeles Dodgers' Kim Hye-seong hit his first major league extra-base hit.

On May 12 (Korean time), Kim Hye-seong started as the No. 8 second baseman in a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, recording 1 hit in 3 at-bats.

Although he was able to record his first extra-base hit, the call was overturned after video review. Kim Hye-seong's season batting average slightly rose to .318.

Based on U.S. time, the game was held on Mother's Day, which is the second Sunday in May, and the Dodgers announced their appropriate starting lineup. Kim Hye-seong was named in the starting lineup as the No. 8 second baseman under the name 'Yoon Jeong's son.'

The Arizona starting pitcher that day was Zac Gallen. He had recorded a 2-4 record with a 4.37 earned run average in 8 games this season. In his first at-bat in the second inning, he had a chance with one out and a runner on second base. However, he swung and missed on the first two pitches, both low curves from Gallen. He laid off the third curve but struck out looking on a 95-mile-per-hour fastball on the fourth pitch.

In the top of the fourth inning, he had another opportunity with one out and a runner on second base. This time, he connected well against Gallen. With a 1-ball, 2-strike count, he drove a 93.5-mile-per-hour fastball. However, it became a ground ball right to the third baseman. In the top of the sixth inning, with one out and a runner on first, he faced Gallen for the third time. He hit Gallen's struggling curveball correctly, driving a 79.5-mile-per-hour knuckle curve on the second pitch into right-center field. Kim Hye-seong reached second base with his speed, and although it was close with Arizona shortstop Geraldo Perdomo's tag, the call was safe. It seemed that Kim Hye-seong's first double was coming.

However, it led to a video review challenge from Arizona, and the call was overturned. It appeared that Kim Hye-seong's foot was on the base before Arizona shortstop Geraldo Perdomo's tag, but it seems the review center saw it differently. Kim Hye-seong shook his head in disappointment at the overturned call as he returned to the dugout.

After that, Kim Hye-seong did not return to the plate. In the eighth inning, after two outs, with left-hander Jose Castillo on the mound, the Dodgers sent Miguel Rojas in to bat for Kim Hye-seong.

The Dodgers won decisively, 8-1, marking a record of 27 wins and 14 losses. Starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin delivered a strong performance, going 5 innings with 3 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts without allowing a run. Shohei Ohtani recorded 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 RBI, Mookie Betts also had 3 hits in 4 at-bats including a home run with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored, and Freddie Freeman hit a home run and had 4 hits in 4 at-bats with 3 RBIs. The Dodgers opened the scoring simply in the first inning. After one out in the first, Mookie Betts had a single to center field, and then Freddie Freeman succeeded in scoring with a timely double. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Ohtani and Mookie Betts hit back-to-back singles, creating an opportunity with no outs and runners on second and third. Freddie Freeman's sacrifice fly to center field gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. In the continued situation with one out and a runner on third, Will Smith's timely hit to center field extended the lead to 3-0.

In the top of the sixth inning, Michael Conforto had a single to right field, and Kim Hye-seong had a hit to right-center, creating an opportunity. Kim Hye-seong was out at second base. James Outman struck out, but with two outs and a runner on third, Ohtani's timely hit to right field increased the gap to 4-0, and in the top of the seventh inning, Freddie Freeman's solo home run made it 5-0.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, with two outs and a runner on first base, he gave up a timely double to Jose Herrera, allowing 1 run to score, but the Dodgers sealed the game with Mookie Betts' solo home run to right field and Will Smith's double to right-center, followed by Andy Pahes' timely hit in the top of the ninth inning.
