The San Diego Padres achieved an overwhelming 21-0 victory. Pitcher Steven Kolek (28) became the co-holder of the record for 'most runs in a shutout victory' in his second career start.

On the 11th (Korean time), San Diego won the 2025 Major League Baseball game against the Colorado Rockies, held in Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, U.S., with a final score of 21-0.

Starting from the first inning, San Diego, led by Gavin Sheets' two-run home run, seized the early lead with five runs, adding one run in the 2nd and 3rd innings, before scoring a big eight runs in the 4th inning with Jason Heyward's three-run home run, along with eight hits, one walk, and one sacrifice fly.

In the 5th inning, San Diego added four more runs with a solo home run from Xander Bogaerts and a three-run home run from Fernando Tatis Jr., completing 20 runs with another run in the 6th inning. In the 8th inning, San Diego scored another run, totaling 21 runs with 24 hits, including five home runs.

Jackson Merrill recorded four hits and two RBIs in six at-bats, and all nine starting players had hits. Tatis Jr., Luis Arraez, Jake Cronenworth, Sheets, and Heyward each tallied three RBIs.

With explosive run support of 21 runs, starting pitcher Kolek recorded his first career shutout win, throwing nine innings, allowing five hits, two walks, and striking out seven without conceding a run, at 'pitchers' graveyard' Coors Field. This shutout, achieved in his second career start, was particularly significant as it tied the record for the largest shutout victory margin in Major League history at 21 runs.

Following Ed Cicotte of the Detroit Tigers on Sept. 16, 1901, and Red Ruffing of the New York Yankees on Aug. 14, 1939, this was the third largest shutout victory margin in history. After achieving a win with no runs in 5⅓ innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his first start on the 5th, Kolek improved his record to two games with 14⅓ innings without a run.

Scoring 21 runs in a shutout match is the second-highest record since 1900, following the 22-0 shutout victory by the Cleveland Indians against the New York Yankees in 2004 and the 22-0 shutout by Pittsburgh against the Chicago Cubs in 1975.

This victory marked the largest scoring margin in the history of the San Diego franchise. Previously, the highest margin was 16 runs. This is also the first time that eight players recorded multiple hits.

In contrast, Colorado suffered an embarrassing home defeat. Starter Bradley Blalock collapsed after 3⅔ innings, allowing 13 hits (three home runs), two walks, striking out one, and giving up 12 runs. In the 8th inning, catcher Jacob Stallings took the mound, allowing two hits, striking out one, and giving up one run over the final two innings.

Having recently lost eight in a row, Colorado fell to 6 wins and 33 losses (winning percentage .154), marking the worst record in the first 39 games since the 1988 Baltimore Orioles also finished that span with 6 wins and 33 losses. After the game, Bud Black, the manager of Colorado, expressed his frustration, saying, "I really hate this. We’ve had doubleheaders over the last four days, and our starters have not performed well, leading to this situation. Our bullpen has been overused lately, and we needed to save some arms."
