Hanwha Eagles team captain Chae Eun-sung (35) urged his juniors to focus on winning one game and not to dwell too much on the 11-game winning streak.

Hanwha won 9-1 against the Kiwoom Heroes in the '2025 Shinhan Bank SOL Bank KBO League' on Oct. 10 at Seoul's Gocheok Sky Dome.

With this victory, Hanwha achieved an 11-game winning streak. It is a remarkable record that surfaces after 12,040 days since the 11-game winning streak recorded in the first game of the doubleheader against SSANGBANGWOOL on the 23rd of May, 1992. Having solidified their place as league leaders, Hanwha holds a season record of 26 wins and 13 losses, with a winning percentage of .667.

Chae Eun-sung started as first baseman batting fifth, achieving 3 hits and 2 RBIs in 5 at-bats. He has been raising his batting feel by racking up 7 hits over the last 3 games. In a post-game interview, he noted, "It seems my batting feel is still fluctuating. Normally, when it's good, that good batting feel should continue, but it seems to have ups and downs, so I want to work harder."

After achieving the 11-game winning streak, Chae Eun-sung emphasized, "Many people probably thought we would have the advantage in today’s game. However, you never know in baseball. We also saw last Wednesday's game between Kiwoom and KIA (where Kiwoom overturned a 7-point deficit in the 8th inning to achieve a comeback win), and there’s no guarantee that such things won’t happen again. Regardless of who the opponent is, we all try to play our best."

During the winning streak, Hanwha defeated strong teams considered contenders for the title, such as LG, KIA, and Samsung. Chae Eun-sung stated, "While winning against strong teams is important, it seems we have gained a lot of confidence by continually managing to win tight games and overcoming difficult matches." He also added, "I still don’t think of us as a strong team. The season is not even halfway through yet. However, confidence has grown a bit. Each player has gained a lot of strength to overcome tight games."

This is the third time in franchise history that Hanwha has recorded more than 10 consecutive wins. The first was a 14-game winning streak from May 12, 1992, against Samsung to the 26th against Lotte. The second was a 10-game winning streak from September 24, 1999, against Hyundai to October 5 against Samsung, and now the third is this year’s 11-game winning streak. In 1992, Hanwha won the regular season, and in 1999, they won the Korean Series. This season, they are also leading the league.

When asked if the goals have been raised this year, Chae Eun-sung replied, "The goals haven’t particularly changed. The goal is still to make the top 4 and to go to autumn baseball. As I mentioned earlier, since it’s still early in the season, I don’t think it’s time to calculate the rankings. I tell the players to just focus on winning day by day, and I believe that records will come if we accumulate victories. Now is not the time to think about rankings."

Hanwha continues to extend its winning streak without losing in tight situations. Chae Eun-sung remarked, "I believe that’s what makes a strong team. Winning many such games brings the team the strength to overcome the atmosphere. Such victories return as confidence, and while there have been tough moments during the winning streak and games we've nearly lost due to mistakes, overcoming those games sharpens our focus. I think that’s a good aspect of how Hanwha has changed this year."

As Hanwha is achieving good results, the support from Hanwha fans has intensified. Hanwha recorded sellouts in both of the first two games of the weekend three-game series against Kiwoom at Gocheok Dome. The game on the 11th is also expected to be a sellout. Chae Eun-sung said, "Almost all our fans fill the home stadium. Hanwha fans often come support us even at away games. There were many who came today as well. It gives us great strength. The results are good, so it feels great."
