After overcoming the shock of his first TKO loss, 'Korean Tiger' Lee Jung-yong (29) passed the weigh-in for his comeback fight.
Lee Jung-yong, the winner of Road to UFC season 1 featherweight (65.8 kg), weighed in at 66.2 kg during the weigh-in for 'UFC 315: Muhammad vs. Della Maddalena' held on the 10th (Korea time), matching the featherweight limit for non-title fights. His opponent, 'Wildcat' Daniel Santos (30, Brazil), also successfully weighed in at the same weight.
Lee Jung-yong (11 wins, 2 losses) will clash with Santos (11 wins, 2 losses) on the 11th at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on the fight pass undercard of 'UFC 315: Muhammad vs. Della Maddalena.'
He aims for the resurrection of the Korean Tiger. Lee Jung-yong achieved an eight-fight winning streak. From being a ROAD FC champion to winning the Road to UFC season 1 featherweight tournament and achieving victory in his UFC debut, he had no obstacles. However, he succumbed to a TKO after sustaining 38 consecutive punches in a slugfest against Haider Amil. After going through tough times, Lee noted, "As time passed, it became a source of nourishment for me," and pledged, "I will prove that I can continue my winning streak again."
Santos, who will face Lee, is a fighter who moved up from bantamweight. Unable to cut weight for bantamweight due to his larger size, he completely switched to featherweight this time. Like his teammate, former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira, his strong suit is aggressive striking pressure.
He has decided to fight smart instead of solely aiming for a finish. However, if the opportunity arises, he plans to showcase his finishing instincts. He stated, "Santos is an exciting fighter, so it won't be a boring match," adding, "I will fight smart, but if the opportunity comes, I will go for the finish."
Lastly, Lee Jung-yong remarked, "Many fans were disappointed by my last loss," and stated, "I will do my best to announce the resurrection of the Korean Tiger in this fight."
The main event features UFC welterweight (77.1 kg) champion 'Remember the Name' Belal Muhammad (36, U.S.) and ranked fifth Jack Della Maddalena (28, Australia), both of whom successfully made weight. The two fighters precisely matched the welterweight limit.
Challenger Della Maddalena (17 wins, 2 losses) shouted, "Australia, I'm bringing the belt home tomorrow. Let's go!" Champion Muhammad (24 wins, 3 losses, 1 no contest) entered to boos from the crowd. He told the audience, "Della Maddalena is like a condemned prisoner walking into the gallows tomorrow," stating, "You will witness my greatness."
In the co-main event, UFC women's flyweight (56.7 kg) champion 'Bullet' Valentina Shevchenko (37, Kyrgyzstan/Peru) and ranked second 'The Beast' Manon Fiorot (35, France) also passed the weigh-in. The champion weighed in at 56.2 kg, while the challenger came in at 56.7 kg.
Challenger Fiorot (12 wins, 1 loss) proclaimed, "I am in really good condition. I came here to take the champion's belt, and I will leave with it."
Champion Shevchenko (24 wins, 1 no contest, 4 losses) affirmed, "I am ready to fight tomorrow," adding, "I will pour all my strength to show the beauty of MMA."
'UFC 315: Muhammad vs. Della Maddalena' main card will be broadcast live on TVING from 11 a.m. on May 11 (Sunday), and the undercard will be live from 9 a.m. The match between Lee Jung-yong and Santos will be delayed broadcasted on the same channel starting at around 8:30 a.m.
