Richarlison (28) will not leave Tottenham Hotspur. Although there were rumors about a return to his former team Everton, they were all false.
The British 'BBC' reported on the 10th (KST) that "David Moyes, the Everton manager, denied the return of Richarlison. He dismissed claims that he wants to bring Richarlison back to the club this summer."
The media reported, "Richarlison, originally from Brazil, left Everton for Tottenham three years ago for a transfer fee of £60 million (about 111.7 billion won). However, he has been struggling with conditioning and health management at Tottenham. According to some reports, Moyes is interested in Richarlison, who has two years left on his contract. However, he kept his distance from Richarlison."
During a press conference, Moyes said, "Richarlison is a really good player and someone I liked. However, from my perspective, I can only say that the truth is 'zero'" as he drew a line on the rumors of acquiring Richarlison.
This is not welcome news for Tottenham, who want to dispose of Richarlison. He was once a key striker for Everton. He made headlines by scoring 10 goals and providing 5 assists in the 2021-2022 season, helping to prevent Everton's relegation, and he has recorded a total of 53 goals in 152 matches.
Richarlison joined Tottenham in the summer of 2022 amid high expectations. The transfer fee was as high as £60 million. Nevertheless, there are reports that Everton sold him at a relatively low price due to financial difficulties. This indicates that Richarlison was expected to greatly contribute to the Tottenham attack while playing between the left and center.
However, the reality was different. In his debut season at Tottenham, Richarlison scored only 1 league goal and was frequently sidelined due to injuries. He could not avoid the humiliation of being labeled as one of the worst signings in the Premier League.
At least last season, Richarlison scored 11 league goals, hinting at a revival, but he was again hindered by injuries. This season has not been significantly different. He frequently falls, staying at 5 goals and 2 assists in 21 matches. Richarlison has now completely devolved into a fragile player.
Tottenham wants to sell Richarlison, who has a contract until the summer of 2027. They have already attempted to dispose of him several times, but his desire to remain at Tottenham has led to failed attempts. He wants to stay in one of the top five European leagues to return to the Brazilian national team and has turned down interest from Saudi Arabian clubs.
Meanwhile, rumors surfaced that Richarlison could return to his former team. Tottenham is reportedly lowering the transfer fee significantly, allowing Everton to approach him. Everton urgently needs to strengthen their attack as Dominic Calvert-Lewin's contract is set to expire at the end of this season.
Specific talks have also emerged. The British 'Give Me Sport' reported that Everton sees Richarlison as a dream player and is considering a loan transfer with an obligation to buy. It seemed that all that was needed was an "OK sign" from Richarlison. The British 'Sky Sports' also confirmed that Everton is interested in the return of Richarlison.
However, Moyes has directly stated that the possibility of acquiring Richarlison is 0%, thus rendering all discussions moot. This situation is one that only brings sighs for Tottenham. Richarlison still attracts interest from Saudi Arabia and his home country Brazil, but the likelihood of a successful transfer appears low.
Meanwhile, Brian King, a former Tottenham scout, has argued that Tottenham must release Richarlison this summer at all costs. He stated in March, "It would make me very happy to see Richarlison leave and a new player come in. I think he would be welcomed regardless of the amount for which he is sold. Tottenham brought him in for a lot of money, and he is causing losses."
He added, "I cannot imagine Tottenham receiving more than £5 million (9.3 billion won) or £10 million (about 18.6 billion won). Who would pay a large amount of money to acquire him? Tottenham needed to reduce losses in the past. In my view, it was a terrible transfer policy."
The Tottenham fan community 'Tottenham News' also stated, "Tottenham must accept the loss from Richarlison and move on to the next stage. They have already become accustomed to losing money on expensive players over the past few years. Tanguy Ndombele, who signed a hefty contract, was released, and Giovani Lo Celso was sold for almost nothing."
Currently, Richarlison is reported to be earning €7.5 million (about 11.8 billion won) at Tottenham. The media noted, "It will be painful to lose another hefty contract while achieving almost nothing. However, if Richarlison's salary is paid for another year, the financial loss will become greater. He clearly has no future at the club, and the likelihood of a contract renewal is slim. It is now time to move forward."
