Hanwha Eagles achieved an 11-game winning streak for the first time in 33 years.
On the 10th, Hanwha won 9-1 against Kiwoom Heroes in the ‘2025 Shinhan Bank SOL Bank KBO League’ game held at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. This tremendous record comes 12,040 days after attaining an 11-game winning streak on May 23, 1992, during the Binggrae era in the first game of the doubleheader against SSANGBANGWOOL in Cheongju.
The Hanwha lineup racked up 16 hits against the Kiwoom mound. Hwang Young-mook, Florial, and Chae Eun-sung each swung their bats to collect three hits, leading the offense that day. Moon Hyun-bin recorded three RBIs without a hit. Rookie Lee Seung-hyun registered his first hit and RBI in his debut.
Starting pitcher Kodi Ponce delivered an impressive performance, tossing six innings while allowing three hits (one home run), two walks, striking out nine, and giving up one run, securing his seventh win of the season. He, along with Park Se-woong (Lotte, seven wins), is tied for the league lead in wins and also set a new personal record for the most pitches thrown in a game (110 pitches). The bullpen consisting of Park Sang-won (1⅔ innings, no runs), Kim Bum-soo (⅓ inning, no runs), and Jeong Woo-joo (1 inning, no runs) maintained the team’s victory.
In the top of the third inning, after leading batter Sim Woo-jun’s hit, Hwang Young-mook’s bunt attempt popped up and was caught as a foul ball by the catcher. However, with Florial’s hit, the team created a one-out, first and third base opportunity, and Moon Hyun-bin drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly. In the fourth inning, Choi Jae-hun walked, Sim Woo-jun was hit by a pitch, and Florial's hit created a one-out, bases loaded situation. Following that, Moon Hyun-bin's sacrifice fly, No Si-hwan's RBI single, and Chae Eun-sung's RBI single widened the score to 5-0.
Kiwoom scored a point in the bottom of the fifth inning when Song Seong-moon hit a solo home run with two outs. Hanwha immediately retaliated. In the top of the eighth inning, after Hwang Young-mook’s hit, Florial hit a double, creating a no-out, second and third base opportunity. Moon Hyun-bin and No Si-hwan each hit RBIs on consecutive productive outs. In the ninth inning, Lee Jin-young's hit, pinch-hitter Lee Won-seok's double, Lee Do-yoon's RBI productive out, and pinch-hitter Lee Seung-hyun's RBI triple capped off the scoring.
Hanwha manager Kim Kyung-moon stated in a post-game interview, “Ponce pitched six clean innings as a starter, leading the team to victory. Our lineup also scored crucial runs whenever opportunities arose, allowing us to play a good game.”
The weekend three-game series between Hanwha and Kiwoom at Gocheok Dome saw the first two games sell out. The upcoming game on the 11th is also expected to be sold out. Manager Kim Kyung-moon noted, “I feel happy that we are showing great games to the fans.”
Challenging for a 12-game winning streak, Hanwha announced that Ryan Weiss will be the starting pitcher for the game on the 11th, while Kiwoom will start Kim Yoon-ha.
