Nasser Al-Khelaifi (52), chairman of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), was caught off guard when a serious interview was interrupted by a surprising question, resulting in laughter.
The British 'Sports Bible' reported on the 8th (Korean time) that Micah Richards (37), a former Manchester City (Man City) defender turned pundit, made a remark to Chairman Al-Khelaifi that left other panelists stunned.
PSG won against Arsenal 2-1 in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi-final for the 2024-2025 season. Having won the first leg away match 1-0, PSG advanced with a combined score of 3-1.
After the match, CBS panelist Richards joined a live interview alongside Manchester United (Man Utd) legend Peter Schmeichel (62). The interview subject was Chairman Al-Khelaifi.
Chairman Al-Khelaifi remarked on PSG's advancement to the final, saying, "This is really important for France. Today, we fought not only for PSG but also for France, Ligue 1, and the young talents of Paris," adding, "There is still one match left. We are not done yet."
This is PSG's second advancement to the Champions League final in the club's history, following the 2019-2020 season. PSG aims for their first Champions League title against Inter Milan, who defeated Barcelona, on June 1.
As Chairman Al-Khelaifi stated, PSG's advancement to the final also demonstrates the competitiveness of Ligue 1, often disparagingly referred to as 'Farmers' League.'
Fans of major leagues such as the Premier League, La Liga, and Bundesliga often belittled Ligue 1, claiming it is the level where farmers play soccer after work.
However, on this day, Richards, known for his quirky or humorous questions that often leave interviewees unsettled, posed an unexpected question to Chairman Al-Khelaifi.
Richards asked, "I heard Thierry Henry has your number. Can I get the number too?" This offbeat question made the situation even more interesting, given that it was live.
Henry, who was sitting in the studio, along with 'Liverpool legend' Jamie Carragher, was taken aback and could not suppress their laughter. Nevertheless, Chairman Al-Khelaifi responded, "Of course," to Richards' question, and they all ended the interview with smiles.
Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Henry stated after the match, "The better team advanced to the final. People will talk about the moment, but moments are really important. Details matter as well."
He added, "PSG scored at the Emirates (Arsenal's home ground), while Arsenal created the same situation at Parc des Princes but failed to score."
Furthermore, Henry commented, "Ultimately, the stronger team moved on. It hurts, but there isn't much to say," noting, "At one point, Arsenal switched to very direct football. They threw everything into the box, but it worked only to a certain extent. The effectiveness was there, but it wasn’t enough. That was the difference between the two teams."
