The Hanwha Eagles' second team achieved a dramatic walk-off victory to secure their 11th consecutive win.
Hanwha defeated SSG Landers 6-4 in the 9th inning during the Futures League game held on July 7 at Seosan Stadium. A tying solo home run by Yu Ro-gyeol in the 9th and a walk-off two-run home run by Han Ji-yoon extended their thrilling winning streak to 11.
Hanwha is currently in first place in the Futures League Northern Division with a record of 24 wins and 11 losses, 6.5 games ahead of second-place Goyang Heroes (16 wins and 16 losses).
Up until the 5th inning, it was a pitching duel. SSG's starter, Cheon Beom-seok, allowed 5 hits but no runs through the 5th inning. Hanwha's starter, Kim Gi-joong, completed 5 innings with 3 hits allowed and 5 strikeouts, without allowing a run.
Hanwha's Lee Sang-gyu came in as the second pitcher in the 6th inning and allowed only one walk while preventing any runs. In the bottom of the 6th, lead-off batter Lee Min-jae hit a solo home run over the center wall to score the first point. Following that, Im Jong-chan reached base with a hit to right and successfully stole second. With one out and runners on second and third, Jang Gyu-hyeon extended the lead to 2-0 with a clutch hit to right.
In the top of the 7th inning, SSG's Ryu Hyo-seung, Hyun Won-hoe, and Kim Gyu-min hit three consecutive hits to score one run. Also, in the top of the 8th, after one out, SSG had a hit by Seok Jeong-woo, a hit-by-pitch on Ryu Hyo-seung, and a walk by Hyun Won-hoe to load the bases. Lee Yul-ye made a walk to force in a run to tie it at 2-2, and Heo Jin's clutch hit to left gave SSG a 3-2 lead.
Hanwha quickly retaliated. In the bottom of the 8th, Kim In-hwan and Han Ji-yoon both walked to create a chance with one out and runners on first and second, and Jeong Min-kyu tied the game at 3-3 with a clutch hit to left.
In the top of the 9th, with one out and runners on first and second, SSG scored one run due to a fielding error by the second baseman on Kim Chang-pyeong's ground ball, taking a 4-3 lead.
In the bottom of the 9th, SSG replaced their pitcher with Lee Geon-wook. Hanwha's lead-off batter, Yu Ro-gyeol, hit a tying solo home run over the center wall on a 3-ball-1-strike count. It was a spectacular home run, traveling 135 meters.
Im Jong-chan flew out to center field, and after one out, Kwon Gwang-min reached base with a hit to right, while Park Sang-eon was out on a fly ball to left, making it two outs with a runner on first. Just as it seemed they were headed for extra innings, Han Ji-yoon hit a walk-off two-run home run over the left wall, successfully achieving a dramatic 11th consecutive win.
After starter Kim Gi-joong's 5 scoreless innings, Lee Sang-kyu pitched one inning with no runs, Joo Hyun-sang gave up one run in one inning, Jang Ji-soo allowed two runs in one inning, and Um Yo-seob pitched two-thirds of an inning with no runs, while Kim Do-bin recorded one run in one-third of an inning (unearned).
