The professional baseball Hanwha Eagles achieved two eight-game winning streaks in a single season. This is the first time in the club's 40-year history.

Hanwha, led by manager Kim Kyung-moon, turned around and won 3-1 against the Samsung Lions in a home game at Daejeon Hanwha Life Eagles Park on June 6.

Thus, Hanwha has embarked on its recent eight-game winning streak since its game against KT on the 26th of last month. Prior to that, the team recorded its first eight-game winning streak of the season from the game against Kiwoom on the 13th of last month to the game against Lotte on the 23rd, marking the second time. Achieving two eight-game winning streaks in a single season is a first for Hanwha since it was founded as Binggrae in 1986, marking its 40th season.

Including the two eight-game winning streaks, Hanwha has made a significant comeback with a record of 19 wins and 3 losses in the last 22 games, resulting in a season record of 23 wins and 13 losses (winning percentage .639) and a win-loss margin of +10. On this day, they maintained a tie for first place with LG, who won 5-1 against Doosan.

Starting pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin, despite not being in great condition, pitched 5 innings, allowing 4 hits, 3 walks, 1 hit batsman, striking out 6, and giving up 1 run, earning his 4th win of the season (1 loss). Facing a tough situation with 1 out, runners on 1st and 3rd in the 1st, and 1 out with a runner on 1st in the 2nd, Ryu showed his crisis management skills after allowing a run in the 3rd inning.

At the plate, Hwang Young-mook changed the frustrating flow with aggressive base running. Though they were held scoreless by Samsung's starting pitcher Won Tae-in until the 4th inning, Hwang Young-mook led off the 5th inning with a double to right-center. Although it wasn't a well-hit ball to right-center, Hwang Young-mook was aggressive, taking advantage of the defensive gap and sliding headfirst into second base.

After that, Hwang Young-mook quickly advanced to third base on a passed ball by Samsung catcher Kang Min-ho, and scored on Choi Jae-hoon's timely hit to right field, tying the game at 1-1. With Hwang Young-mook's base running play shifting the momentum, Hanwha continued their attack in the 5th, connecting with 2 outs and runners on 3rd before Esteban Florial hit a go-ahead single that struck the right field monster wall, making it 2-1.

In the 6th, Hwang Young-mook grounded to shortstop with runners on 1st and 3rd and 1 out, but sprinted to first base to prevent a double play and earned a run batted in. Not only Hwang Young-mook, but also the 1st batter Choi In-ho, the 4th batter Noh Si-hwan, and the 8th batter Choi Jae-hoon recorded two hits each, contributing timely scores.

The bullpen also shone. While star closer Kim Seo-hyun took a rest after pitching on consecutive days, the other bullpen pitchers combined for 4 scoreless innings, preserving Ryu Hyun-jin's win. Five relief pitchers, including Park Sang-won (1 inning), Kim Beom-soo (⅓ inning), Jeong Woo-joo (1⅓ innings), Jo Dong-wook (⅓ inning), and Han Seung-hyuk (1 inning), executed effective relay pitching, securing the win on Kim Seo-hyun's rest day.

Hanwha manager Kim Kyung-moon viewed this positively. After the game, manager Kim noted, "Ryu Hyun-jin did well as a starter, pitching 5 innings with minimal runs. I also want to commend our bullpen for successfully keeping the opposing lineup scoreless, even in a situation where our closer was taking a rest."

Manager Kim Kyung-moon added, "I am happy to be able to give a victory to the fans who fill our home stadium every day. I always appreciate the support from the fans."

In the first year of Daejeon Hanwha Life Eagles Park's opening, Hanwha sold out 15 of its 18 home games this year (17,000 fans). Since the game against Kiwoom on the 13th of last month, which was the start of the first eight-game winning streak, there has been a streak of full crowds in the last 11 home games. Hanwha’s record in its 18 home games this year is also 13 wins and 5 losses, with a winning percentage of 72.2%. Following LG (14 wins and 5 losses, winning percentage .737), they are receiving significant support from Daejeon's home fans.

With unstoppable momentum, Hanwha will challenge for a nine-game winning streak on the 7th against Samsung in Daejeon. Hanwha's last nine-game winning streak was 20 years ago, from June 4, 2005, against Doosan in Cheongju to June 14 in Gwangju (Mudeung). Right-handed pitcher Moon Dong-joo will start for Hanwha on the 7th, while left-hander Lee Seung-hyun will take the mound for Samsung to try to end their four-game losing streak.
