Choi Hyung-woo became the oldest player to reach 400 home runs.

On 4th, Choi Hyung-woo started as the designated hitter in the game against the Kiwoom Heroes at the '2025 Shinhan Bank SOL Bank KBO League' held at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, recording 4 at-bats, 4 hits, 1 home run, 3 RBIs, 3 runs, and 1 walk.

Leading off the second inning, Choi Hyung-woo showcased his hot batting form by hitting a double in his first at-bat. He then took the lead with an RBI single by Kim Sun-bin and an RBI hit by Han Jun-soo. In the third inning, he led off again and got another hit.

In the fourth inning, with two outs, Choi Hyung-woo drew a walk, and after Kim Sun-bin's walk and Oh Sun-woo's 2-RBI hit, he scored his second run of the game. In the sixth inning, with no outs at 1st and 2nd base, he hit a three-run home run off left-handed reliever Yoon Seok-won, whose first pitch reached 141 km/h, clearing the center field fence. The distance was 130 meters.

After recording a double in the second inning, a hit in the third, and a home run in the sixth, Choi Hyung-woo had a chance for a cycle if he had added a triple. However, he got another hit in the seventh and was substituted by pinch hitter Han Seung-taek in the ninth. Thanks to Choi Hyung-woo's performance, KIA secured a 13-1 victory, breaking a three-game losing streak.

Choi Hyung-woo, who recorded his fifth home run of the season, reached the milestone of 400 career home runs with this home run. This is the fourth record in KBO League history and the oldest (41 years, 4 months, 19 days) record. The only players who have hit more home runs than Choi Hyung-woo in KBO history are Choi Jeong (SSG, 498 home runs), Lee Seung-yeop (467 home runs), and Park Byung-ho (Samsung, 412 home runs).

In a post-game interview, Choi Hyung-woo noted, "I’m glad it came in a game that broke the losing streak. Honestly, I didn’t think about it. I thought I would accomplish it someday, but now that it happened, I feel proud of myself. I think it’s the result of my consistent efforts until now."

"I was in a comfortable situation when I hit the home run," Choi Hyung-woo clarified. "There was a big score difference, so I just thought I’d swing from the first pitch, and a pitch came right to me. I wasn’t thinking about the home run. When I put in too much effort, I don’t hit good balls."

Having achieved the oldest record for 400 home runs, Choi Hyung-woo stated, "I started late, and I don’t consider myself a home run hitter while playing baseball. I think this record is accumulated over a long period. It’s not just about hitting 400 home runs; I feel proud of what I have achieved throughout this long journey."

Choi Hyung-woo maintains his all-time lead with a total of 1,668 RBIs. Choi Jeong (SSG, 1,568 RBIs) is closely chasing him. Choi Hyung-woo remarked, "I don’t particularly want to widen the gap with Choi Jeong. Of course, it would be nice if the RBIs keep piling up. RBIs mean I have contributed to the team’s scores, so as a key player, they are much more significant than just getting 2 or 3 hits," and added, "If he catches up, it can't be helped. I will just continue my own way."

Choi Hyung-woo, who could have achieved a cycling hit with a triple in his last at-bat, admitted, "Of course, I thought about it. However, I didn’t have that much greed. If I had, I would have gone up to bat in my last at-bat." He added with a smile, "By the way, I’ve had a cycling hit once, so I didn’t feel that much desire for it."
