U Byeong-hoon, the manager of FC Anyang, vowed to defeat FC Seoul next time.

FC Anyang drew 1-1 with FC Seoul in the Hana Bank K League 1 2025 Round 12, which took place at 7 p.m. on the 6th at Anyang Sports Complex.

As a result, Anyang experienced regret as they could not secure a victory in their first home ground rivalry match. They also failed to avenge their 1-2 loss in February’s away match against Seoul. Anyang, which recorded its first draw of the season, stands at 7th place with 16 points (5 wins, 1 draw, 7 losses).

Seoul also finds it difficult to be satisfied with the result. Although they broke a three-game losing streak, they failed to win in six games. While conceding the first goal is seen as positive, it is disappointing that they could not turn the match around despite their late-game offensive surge. Seoul is in 9th place with 14 points (3 wins, 5 draws, 4 losses).

Anyang got off to a positive start that day. After stabilizing against Seoul's attacks in the first half, they took the lead with a goal from Mateus in the 7th minute of the second half. Seoul did not easily crumble, though. In the 36th minute of the second half, Moon Seon-min equalized with a header off Lingard's corner kick.

After the match, U Byeong-hoon reflected, "Although I am disappointed with the result, I would like to thank the players for not giving up and doing their best until the end. I appreciate that we were able to play in the direction we wanted, despite the difficult circumstances. Even though we drew today, we drew strength from the fans who overwhelmed Anyang Sports Complex with their voices."

He continued, "I don’t think we fully met the emotions or expectations of the fans. However, there is still one match left against Seoul. I will do my best to win that match and soothe the feelings of the fans."

Manager U Byeong-hoon appeared visibly angry right after conceding a goal. He said, "We prepared well for the set-piece situation. However, since the opponent was behind, they increased their numbers on attack, and our player could not keep up, leading to the goal. Rather than conceding, we should have made more efforts to score and taken advantage of our chances. I regret that part."

Goalkeeper Kim Da-sol collided with a teammate during the goal conceded and was substituted after bleeding. Manager U Byeong-hoon explained, "The area around the cheekbone was torn. He collided with a senior player on our team. It looks like he will need more than five stitches. There is another match on Saturday, so it seems he will be in considerable pain."

Anyang earned a penalty kick in the first half, but it was canceled after an on-field review. Manager U Byeong-hoon received a warning for protesting about this. He stated, "I believe the referee did their best to see it. However, from my perspective, when you obstruct an attack while the ball is coming, I thought it was a penalty. In such situations, they have continuously awarded penalties. However, since the referee reviewed the video and judged it was not a penalty, I should have restrained myself. Still, I thought it was necessary to appeal to some extent."

Will today's match change Seoul's view of not considering Anyang a rival? U Byeong-hoon stated, "It is fine if Seoul does not think of us as a rival. We firmly believe that our identity does not change. What’s important is that we have one match left. In that match, our goal is to bring everything together and defeat Seoul once."

Finally, Manager U Byeong-hoon stated, "In the two-round robin, accumulating points is our goal. We showed performance that meets that goal today. I will prepare well with the players, improving the mistakes made in the first round robin." He added, "While I cannot provide specific details about the transfer market plans, our scout has gone to Brazil. If there’s a player that fits the team, we will sign them. Given that our squad is not very deep, issues with stamina may arise in the summer. If I determine that there is a necessary position, I plan to make signings."
