LG Twins ace Yooni Chirinos showcased a quality start plus performance, overcoming symptoms of elbow tightness.

On the 6th, Chirinos started the fifth game of the season against the Doosan Bears in the 2025 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, pitching 7 innings, giving up 4 hits, no walks, striking out 5, and allowing 1 run on 96 pitches to earn his fifth win of the season (1 loss). His performance led the team to a 5-1 victory.

With a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and 2 outs, Chirinos faced a crisis with a runner on second base after allowing a 1-RBI single to Kim Jae-hwan, but that was the first and last run allowed. Starting with a double play by Kang Seung-ho with no outs and a runner on first base in the bottom of the second inning, he managed to put together an impressive streak of 16 consecutive outs until the bottom of the seventh inning, navigating a two-out, two-on situation in the bottom of the seventh successfully with a ground ball from Oh Myung-jin. Chirinos handed the baton to Kim Jin-sung in the bottom of the eighth inning, lowering his earned run average from 1.67 to 1.62.

After the game, Chirinos said, “I am thankful to God that we could win, and I could not have done it without my teammates. I was thinking of pitching with a more complicated pitch mix while facing the batters two or three times, and it led to good results.”

The driving force behind his performance that day was the 'sweeper.' Chirinos said, “In the last game against Doosan, I used a lot of splitters. Unlike my last outing, today I focused mainly on the sweeper, and I think it worked well.” He smiled with satisfaction.

Chirinos also expressed his gratitude towards the LG training staff in an interview. He remarked, “A while ago, I had some elbow tightness, but I did my usual stretching and received care from the training coaches, and now my physical condition has improved. I am thankful.”

Lastly, Chirinos left a message for the fans, saying, “I am grateful for the fans who come to the stadium to support us, and I hope they continue to come and cheer for us. Our team players are doing their best, so I hope you will trust us.”
