Lee Kang-in (24, Paris Saint-Germain) has started walking normally again. There is hope for his appearance in the match against Arsenal, which had seemed difficult.

Loïc Tanji, a reporter for the prominent French media outlet 'L'Équipe,' reported on the 6th (Korean time) via his personal social media that "Lee Kang-in will attempt to train on Tuesday ahead of PSG's Champions League match against Arsenal."

PSG lost 1-2 in an away match against Strasbourg in the 32nd round of the 2024-2025 season Ligue 1 held at Stade de la Meinau in Strasbourg, France on the 4th.

The match had little motivation for PSG, who had already secured early victory. Head coach Luis Enrique implemented significant rotations in preparation for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) semifinals against Arsenal, scheduled for the 8th. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and others were rested.

This provided Lee Kang-in with a starting opportunity. However, he collapsed at the end of the first half. He collided with an opposing player while competing for the ball and suffered a hit to his left shin area while attempting a tackle. Lee Kang-in quickly fell, struggling in pain, and was substituted at halftime due to a limp.

After the match, Coach Enrique mentioned that Lee Kang-in's injury is not serious. He briefly reassured fans by saying, "Lee Kang-in took a hit to his shin. It doesn't seem to be a serious injury."

However, concerns grew that Lee Kang-in may not be able to participate in the match against Arsenal. The French newspaper 'Le Parisien' reported that Lee Kang-in appeared to be in poor physical condition. The outlet stated, "Lee Kang-in's participation in the match against Arsenal is uncertain. He grimaced as he left the field after being substituted due to a halftime injury in the match against Strasbourg on Saturday."

Additionally, the media noted, "Lee Kang-in was seen leaving Stade de la Meinau with a pronounced limp", adding that "while he did not use crutches, he was helped by two PSG staff members to board the team bus. His participation in the match against Arsenal in the UCL semifinals appears unlikely."

'L'Équipe' also explained, "Lee Kang-in has taken a hit. His participation in the second leg against Arsenal at Parc des Princes on Wednesday has become uncertain. He did not participate in training this Sunday and is expected to miss training on Monday as well. PSG staff will monitor Lee Kang-in's recovery over the next 48 hours to determine if he can retain his spot in the squad."

Fortunately, Lee Kang-in seems to be recovering faster than expected. 'L'Équipe' reported, "Lee Kang-in was substituted after getting injured in the match against Strasbourg on Saturday. He is expected to decide whether to participate in the Champions League semifinals second leg against Arsenal on Wednesday after testing his fitness in training on Tuesday."

The outlet further stated, "Will PSG be able to bring Lee Kang-in back after Usman Dembélé has rejoined the squad ahead of the match against Arsenal? This will be known on Tuesday," adding that "Lee Kang-in will try to participate in team training normally under Coach Enrique. He has managed to walk normally again without limping."

While Lee Kang-in's participation in the match against Arsenal is still undecided, the fact that he is no longer limping is a significant positive development. If he receives a favorable assessment of his physical condition in training, he is likely to be named on the match roster. Of course, it is also likely that he will be substituted in the late second half or be unable to play, but if he simply sits on the bench, there could be sufficient opportunity for him.

If PSG defeats Arsenal and reaches the final, Lee Kang-in could become the third South Korean player to step onto the UCL final stage. Previously, Park Ji-sung, who played for Manchester United, and Son Heung-min, the captain of Tottenham, have both participated in UCL finals. PSG currently holds an advantageous position, having won the first leg against Arsenal 1-0.

If Lee Kang-in makes a comeback and performs well in the match against Arsenal, it could be the best showcase for him. He is likely to part ways with PSG this summer as his playing time has significantly decreased due to being pushed out of the starting competition in the second half of the season. Lee Kang-in fueled rumors by removing PSG's name from his social media profile.

There are ongoing transfer rumors in France as well. According to 'L'Équipe,' Lee Kang-in wants to receive more opportunities in important matches. However, as the team is performing well, he is being patient and not causing any problems. Both parties are expected to discuss the future after the season ends.

Now, PSG is open to the sale of Lee Kang-in. They still highly value his versatility. Moreover, since he is a player favored by Coach Enrique, they would like to extend his contract. However, they are considering allowing a transfer if they receive a suitable offer, considering the player wants to leave for more playing time.

Arsenal is also one of the teams targeting Lee Kang-in. In fact, Arsenal reportedly inquired about acquiring Lee Kang-in during last winter’s transfer window, but PSG declined the offer. If Lee Kang-in impresses in front of head coach Mikel Arteta, Arsenal's interest is likely to intensify.
