A feeling of another season without a trophy is rising for Tottenham.
On the 2nd, Tottenham defeated Norway's Bodo/Glimt 3-1 in the first leg of the semifinals of the 2024-2025 season Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Europa League held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.
Tottenham will advance to the final if they draw in the second leg in Norway on the 9th. The opponent in the final will be the winner of Manchester United versus Athletic Bilbao. In the first leg, Manchester United won 3-0, increasing the likelihood of advancing to the final.
Tottenham had an advantageous position with Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, and Dominic Solanke scoring goals while Son Heung-min was sidelined with a foot injury.
However, Tottenham cannot rest easy. Maddison and Solanke, who both scored in the first leg, have both been injured. Head Coach Ange Postecoglou mentioned that the reason he only played Maddison for 65 minutes in the first leg was due to the injury.
The Evening Standard reported, "Maddison scored after receiving a brilliant pass from Porro. However, he felt a strain in his knee and limped off the field. Maddison underwent a detailed examination on the 3rd and was diagnosed with the possibility of missing the trip to Norway."
Tottenham has been without a trophy for an astounding 17 years. They fell to 16th place in the Premier League this season. They have been eliminated from all other competitions, including the League Cup. The only chance for victory is in the Europa League.
Even leading scorer Solanke has been injured. Solanke scored from a penalty kick but sustained a hamstring injury, playing 75 minutes before being substituted.
Midfielder Lucas Veribal has been ruled out for the season due to an ankle ligament injury. Postecoglou sighed, stating, "Veribal's injury is serious, and he cannot play for the remainder of the season. Solanke has also injured his ankle, but the situation is not serious. It will be difficult for him to participate in the match against West Ham this weekend."
The most important injury is Son Heung-min's, and it is uncertain when he will recover. As Tottenham realizes that Son's injury is not healing easily, there are discussions about focusing on the Europa League final on the 22nd.
