Aaron Judge (33) of the New York Yankees is having an overwhelming season.
MLB.com released its top 10 power rankings for hitters on the 1st (Korea time). Judge, who is putting on an amazing performance this season, confidently secured the top spot.
Judge is a league-leading home run hitter, currently recording a batting average of .292 in 1,024 career Major League games, with 3,681 at-bats, 1,076 hits, 325 home runs, 748 RBIs, 765 runs, 56 stolen bases, and an OPS of 1.019. He has continued to perform well since signing a 9-year, $360 million (approximately 517 billion won) extension with the Yankees in December 2022.
This year, Judge's performance is truly dazzling. He has a batting average of .427 over 31 games (117 at-bats, 50 hits), with 10 home runs, 32 RBIs, 29 runs, 3 stolen bases, and an OPS of 1.282. He currently leads Major League Baseball in batting average, on-base percentage (.521), slugging percentage (.761), OPS, tied for first in home runs, and tied for first in RBIs across various hitting metrics.
Judge, who is dominating Major League Baseball this year, is not just having good season stats; he is showcasing one of the hottest hitting performances in the history of Major League Baseball. According to the American baseball statistics site FanGraphs, Judge's wRC+ (Weighted Runs Created Plus) is 262, surpassing the 244 recorded by Barry Bonds in 2002, thus marking an all-time record. If Judge finishes the season at this pace, he could become the best hitter in Major League history. Even in 2022, when Judge set the American League home run record (62 home runs) and won the unanimous MVP in 2024, he did not achieve as high a wRC+ as he has this year.
MLB.com noted, "It is no exaggeration to say we are witnessing history with Judge. He is not only building a legendary career, but he can also be considered the best hitter of all time over the past year. During this period, he recorded a slash line of .362/.489/.759 with 61 home runs, 155 RBIs, and a fWAR (FanGraphs Wins Above Replacement) of 13.6. Oh, and his batting average is over .400 this season," expressing admiration for Judge's performance.
Emphasizing Judge's achievements, MLB.com asked, "What has contributed to such performance?" and analyzed, "One reason could be that his hitting posture has changed."
While Judge secured the top spot in the power rankings, Pete Alonso (Mets) is second, Bobby Witt Jr. (Kansas City) is third, Shohei Ohtani (Dodgers) is fourth, Fernando Tatis Jr. (San Diego) is fifth, Corbin Carroll (Arizona) is sixth, Alex Bregman (Boston) is seventh, Kyle Tucker (Cubs) is eighth, Jorge Polanco (Seattle) is ninth, and Ben Rice (Yankees) rounds out the top ten.
Lee Jung-hoo (San Francisco), who is performing well this year, sadly did not make the top 10 in the power rankings, but he was mentioned as a notable hitter alongside Pete Crow-Armstrong (Cubs), Kyle Schwarber (Philadelphia), Marcell Ozuna (Atlanta), Pavin Smith (Arizona), Cedric Mullins (Baltimore), Seiya Suzuki (Cubs), and James Wood (Washington).
