Legends from the three major professional baseball leagues in the world—the Korean, American, and Japanese leagues—have prepared a special event for Asian baseball fans in November and December. In Seoul, legends from Korea and the United States will meet, while in Tokyo, legends from Japan and the United States will face off in a meaningful match to commemorate the global baseball heritage.
The American legends team is led by Luis Alísea, who played in 1,341 games over 13 seasons in Major League Baseball. Joining him as a coach is Ozzie Smith, who earned the nickname 'The Wizard' during his 19 seasons in Major League Baseball, winning 13 Gold Glove Awards, being selected as an All-Star 15 times, and winning the World Series in 1982.
The roster of Major League Baseball legends participating as players is impressive. Over 50 former big league stars have expressed their intention to participate, including Manny Ramirez, Rick Ankiel, Miguel Tejada, and José Contreras. In addition, numerous well-known players are preparing to participate, who are well recognized by Korean fans.
Alísea plans to visit Korea in May with Manny Ramirez to unveil the full roster of participating players and hold a press conference to announce the purpose and vision of this series. In particular, Alísea and the American legends are expected to meet directly with the Korean legends during this period to discuss various collaboration plans that the legends from both countries can achieve through baseball.
The Korean team will consist of members of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) League legends affiliated with the Korea Professional Baseball Retired Players Association through an agreement. Many members are reportedly gathering their intentions to participate in a positive direction.
The Korean organizers of this event, 'Cubenest & Co.' and 'Studio Ji-eum,' stated, "This will be an event that carries deep significance beyond just a simple exhibition game, focusing on donations, social contributions, and supporting the development of youth baseball in Korea and Japan." They added, "The players look forward to a special festival that demonstrates the power of baseball in bringing people together across generations and borders."
