The Major League Baseball Los Angeles Dodgers secured a walk-off victory, rising to a tie for first place in the National League West.
On the 29th (Korean time), the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Miami Marlins 7-6 in 10 innings at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
With this victory, the Dodgers extended their winning streak to three games, improving to 19 wins and 10 losses, thus tying with the division-leading San Francisco Giants. Starting pitcher Dustin May recorded 5⅓ innings with 5 hits, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts, and 3 earned runs. Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-2 with 3 walks and 1 run scored. Pinch hitter Tommy Edman hit a 2-RBI walk-off single.
The Dodgers started with Shohei Ohtani (designated hitter), Mookie Betts (shortstop), Freddie Freeman (first baseman), Teoscar Hernández (right fielder), Will Smith (catcher), Michael Conforto (left fielder), Andy Edman (center fielder), Max Muncy (third baseman), and Miguel Rojas (second baseman).
Ohtani reached base with a single to right in the first inning. He then successfully stole second base. Although Betts grounded out to center field, Ohtani tagged up and advanced to third. Freeman's single to center field scored Ohtani, giving the Dodgers the first run.
The Dodgers scored additional runs in the third, but it was somewhat disappointing. Leading off, Muncy singled to left, Rojas singled to right, and Ohtani walked, creating a no-out bases loaded opportunity. Betts hit a single to left for a 2-0 lead, and the bases loaded situation continued. However, Freeman struck out swinging on a full count, and Teoscar also struck out swinging. With two outs and the bases loaded, Smith flew out to right field, missing the chance to add runs.
The Dodgers extended their lead in the fourth. After one out, Edman reached base with a single to left and successfully stole second base. Muncy was out on a ground ball to first base, leaving two outs at third. Rojas hit a double to left field, allowing Edman to score, making it 3-0. Subsequently, Ohtani walked, and Betts' hit was caught by the second baseman, ending the attack.
In the fifth, with Freeman reaching base on a walk, Teoscar hit a two-run home run over the left field wall, extending the lead to 5-0.
Starting pitcher Dustin May completed the first inning with a three-up, three-down. He recorded an out via a fly out, a strikeout, and a ground ball out. In the second, he recorded two outs but allowed consecutive hits to Matt Mervis and Otto Lopez. With two outs and runners on first and second, Ronnie Simon's well-hit ball was caught in left field, ending the inning without any runs. The third inning ended with a strikeout, a ground ball to the pitcher, and a strikeout for another three-up, three-down.
In the fourth, he issued a walk to lead-off hitter Eric Wagamann but erased the runner with a ground ball double play against Augustine Ramirez. He ended the inning with a lineout to third by Kyle Stowers. May found himself in a jam in the fifth after one out, allowing a hit and a walk, but he resolved the crisis by turning a double play against Pauli.
In the sixth, May allowed a run after giving up a hit, a walk, and another hit. He recorded an out with a flyout to center field, placing runners on first and second, then handed the ball to the bullpen. Left-handed relief pitcher Anthony Banda came in.
Miami substituted right-handed batter Corner Noby for left-handed batter Stowers, and he reached base on a walk. With one out and the bases loaded, Dan Myers, who was the team's home run leader with 7 home runs, appeared to bat in place of left-handed hitter Mervis.
Myers hit a grand slam over the left-center field wall on a 3-1 count against a 95.6 mph four-seam fastball, quickly tying the game at 5-5. May's earned run total increased to 3.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Dodgers had Rojas reach base with a surprise bunt that rolled along the third line to the third base. Ohtani walked. However, in a no-out, first and second opportunity, Betts flew out to right field, and Freeman hit into a ground ball double play, wasting the chance.
In the top of the seventh, Banda recorded three straight flyouts for a three-up, three-down. In the top of the eighth, Evan Phillips took the mound as the relief pitcher and also finished with a three-up, three-down. In the bottom of the eighth, leading off, Muncy reached base with a single to center, and Tommy Edman, pinch hitting, hit a well-placed ball that was caught straight at the center fielder. Ohtani swung and missed at a low slider that was far outside the zone and ended up striking out. Betts also struck out.
In the last of the ninth, tied 5-5, the Dodgers saw Freeman reach base on a walk. Teoscar struck out, and Smith also struck out.
In the 10th inning of extra innings, Miami scored a run with one out and runners on second base. In the bottom of the 10th, with no outs and a runner on second, Edman drew a walk. Kike laid down a sacrifice bunt, creating a one-out, runners on second and third opportunity. Edman drove in two runs with a walk-off single, leading the team to victory.
