Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham Hotspur) is expected to be out longer than anticipated. He has also been included in the list of absentees for the upcoming match against Liverpool.

Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham's manager, warned about Son's absence during a pre-match press conference ahead of the 34th round of the 2024-2025 season English Premier League against Liverpool on the 25th (Korean time).

Tottenham will face Liverpool at 12:30 a.m. on the 28th.

Son sustained an injury in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League quarterfinal against Eintracht Frankfurt held on the 11th. He was unable to avoid a rough tackle from the opposing defense and injured his foot.

Since then, he has missed three consecutive matches: the 32nd round of the Premier League against Wolverhampton Wanderers, the second leg of the quarterfinal against Frankfurt, and the 33rd round against Nottingham Forest. He is expected to be sidelined for the match against Liverpool as well.

While his condition is improving, the timeline for his return remains uncertain. Postecoglou noted, "There are no significant changes in the squad. The players have been well-prepared since the Nottingham match. Son, who is in rehabilitation, has made substantial recovery, but he is not in a condition to participate in the match against Liverpool. He is the only player who is still unable to play. The other players have returned to normal fitness."

Son has returned to the training ground. He has recently engaged in light training on the grass. However, he will need a bit more time before he can be put into a match.

Postecoglou plans to use Son cautiously. He said, "The foot is a crucial area for supporting weight, so we must be careful. A combination of rest and treatment is necessary," emphasizing that "the most important thing is that Son has had sufficient rest for a week. This is a crucial first step in rehabilitation."

From Tottenham's perspective, a rushed return poses significant risks. Tottenham must win the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semifinals against Bodø/Glimt scheduled for May 2 to continue their challenge of breaking the 'trophyless' streak. It is anticipated that they will conserve Son significantly until this match.

Meanwhile, Liverpool, who will face Tottenham, is in peak form. Liverpool is currently leading the league with 24 wins, 7 draws, and 2 losses, accumulating 79 points. Just a draw in this match against Tottenham will secure the Premier League title.
