Ryan McBroom (33), a foreign batter brought in as an injury replacement for the SSG Landers, hit a single in his first Futures League game.

On the 25th, McBroom started as the lead designated hitter in a game against the Goyang Heroes (Kiwoom Heroes’ second team) at Goyang Baseball Stadium, recording 1 hit in 2 at-bats.

Leading off in the first inning, McBroom hit a single against right-handed starting pitcher Jo Seong-hoon. He successfully advanced to second base due to a walk by Jeong Hyeon-seung, but no subsequent hits followed, so he did not score. In the second inning, with two outs and runners on first and second, he struck out swinging on three pitches against Jo Seong-hoon. In his third at-bat in the fourth inning, he was replaced by Lee Seung-min and finished the game.

McBroom signed with SSG for $75,000 (approximately 100 million won) as an injury replacement for Guillermo Heredia. With a career batting average of .268 over 66 major league games (164 at-bats, 44 hits), 6 home runs, 16 RBIs, 17 runs scored, and an OPS of .749, McBroom also has a minor league batting average of .284 across 812 games (3,024 at-bats, 860 hits), 134 home runs, 518 RBIs, 453 runs scored, 23 stolen bases, and an OPS of .831. He played with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in Nippon Professional Baseball in 2022 and 2023, achieving a batting average of .255 over 198 games (674 at-bats, 172 hits), with 23 home runs, 105 RBIs, 78 runs scored, 1 stolen base, and an OPS of .749, which is a respectable performance.

After playing in the American independent league last year, McBroom nearly started this season in the independent league but received a call from SSG and gained a new opportunity in the KBO League.

McBroom arrived in Korea on the 21st and completed a medical test. On the 24th, he recorded 0 hits in 5 at-bats during a practice game against Hanil University of Technology and played 7 innings as a first baseman and right fielder. He received a work visa that day and was officially registered in the Futures League roster for his first official game.

SSG has been struggling offensively due to injuries to key batters such as Choi Jeong and Heredia. However, Choi Jeong has begun preparations to return from his hamstring injury, and McBroom is expected to enhance the lineup as he regains his game sense. The inclusion of Choi Jeong and McBroom is anticipated to significantly strengthen the SSG lineup.
