The Korea Professional Baseball Retired Players Association (hereinafter the Retired Players Association) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hanyang University Technology Holding Company ("Hanyang University Technology Holding").
The Retired Players Association stated on the 25th, "On the 23rd, we signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hanyang University Technology Holding to promote entrepreneurship in the sports industry and support the social re-emergence of retired athletes."
Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to collaborate on joint operation of entrepreneurship education programs for retired athletes, creating a sports startup ecosystem and infrastructure, discovering promising sports startups, and linking investments, as well as establishing a revenue generation model in the sports sector. Additionally, the goal is to enhance the public nature and sustainability of the sports industry by combining the industrial networks and entrepreneurship support capabilities held by both organizations and by preparing a joint discovery program for sports startups and an entrepreneurship education system for retired athletes, while returning part of the revenue from the fund operated by Hanyang University Technology Holding back into the sports industry.
An Gyeong-hyeon, chairman of the Retired Players Association, said, "This will greatly help turn the anxiety about life after retirement into opportunities for entrepreneurship, and we will strive to successfully design a second life through practical entrepreneurship education and mentoring." He added that Kim Gyeong-won, CEO of Hanyang University Technology Holding, noted, "We will actively support not only the transfer of the abundant field experience that athletes have to sports entrepreneurs but also ensure that the experiences and networks of retired athletes shine in the entrepreneurship field."
With this agreement, it is expected that retired athletes will gain opportunities for new leaps through entrepreneurship, positively impacting the revitalization of the sports industry and the realization of social values.
