Mason Greenwood (24, Marseille), a product of Manchester United (Man U), now represents Jamaica instead of England.
According to global 'ESPN' on the 18th (Korean time), the Football Association (FA) announced that Greenwood decided to change his nationality from England and play for the Jamaica national team.
Greenwood was called up to the England national team at the age of 18 on Sept. 2020. He made his A-match debut as a substitute in the second half of a UEFA Nations League match against Iceland.
However, Greenwood made headlines last May when he was named in the squad for the Copa America in Jamaica and reportedly submitted documents requesting to change his nationality to Jamaica in August.
Greenwood was one of the top prospects in England. He gained attention by debuting on the first team stage at the age of 17 under head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Greenwood was praised as a forward responsible for the future of both Manchester United and England.
However, Greenwood's situation changed when he was arrested in January 2022 on charges of raping and assaulting his girlfriend. The club suspended Greenwood's playing privileges, and fans called for his expulsion from the team.
Ultimately, Greenwood learned of the irreversible policy from Manchester United in the summer of 2023 and was loaned to Getafe. After completing his loan, Greenwood transferred permanently to Marseille on a five-year contract in the summer of 2024.
Greenwood appeared in 36 matches for Getafe, scoring 10 goals and providing 6 assists. He made an impact at Marseille with a total of 31 matches, 17 goals, and 4 assists. There is now speculation about a potential transfer to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) this summer.
