Postecoglou discusses Son Heung-min's future amid contract renewal uncertainty

Postecoglou answered questions about Son Heung-min's contract extension during an official press conference held on the 13th (Korea time) ahead of the Premier League match against Wolverhampton.

He explained, "No specific negotiations have taken place yet," and added, "There will be discussions at an appropriate time as we organize the overall squad after the season ends."

Postecoglou only noted, "If I lead the team next season, Son Heung-min will also be part of that plan."

Recently, the contract renewal issue of Son Heung-min has not received significant attention. This is because all interest has focused on the team's performance in the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals, as Tottenham has advanced to this stage. On the 11th, Tottenham drew 1-1 in the first leg against Frankfurt and is set to play the second leg in Germany on the 18th.

However, following Postecoglou's comments, Son Heung-min's future has started to resurface in discussions.

Reporting on Postecoglou's remarks, British media outlet 'Sports Mall' provided a realistic analysis. "Tottenham, which signed Son Heung-min from Bayer Leverkusen for approximately £26.1 million (about 48.6 billion won) in 2015, should prepare for the possibility that he may leave as a free agent (FA) after his contract expires. This summer or next January could be the last opportunity for cashing in," they noted.

However, the media assessed that renewing Son Heung-min's contract would be more advantageous for the club. 'Sports Mall' emphasized, "Although Tottenham's performance this season has not met expectations, Son Heung-min has consistently produced attacking points with 7 goals and 10 assists in the league."

It further stated, "He has recorded double-digit attacking points in the Premier League for nine consecutive seasons and serves as a role model for promising players like Mikey Moore and Wilson Odobert. Therefore, if he maintains good physical condition and performance in the 2025-2026 season, there is a sufficient possibility for a short-term contract extension for Son Heung-min."
