"I didn't think we would lose. But I sincerely apologize."
FC Seoul and Daejeon Hana Citizen recorded a 2-2 draw in their K League 1 2025 Round 8 match at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on the 12th.
Seoul faced many difficulties that day. Ki Sung-yueng and Jeong Seung-won were injured in the first half and couldn't participate properly in the match. Additionally, they conceded 2 goals to Daejeon early on, creating a significant burden. However, they did not give up and equalized with 2 goals in the second half.
Kim Jin-su allowed a penalty kick due to a handball foul during Daejeon’s first goal situation. However, he recorded an assist with a sharp cross after a powerful breakthrough for the equalizer in the second half.
After the match, Kim Jin-su said, “We conceded two goals due to our mistakes. It was a game we could have won, so it’s disappointing to end in a draw. I didn't think we would lose. I see Seoul as a team that doesn’t fall easily. Even today, we were down 0-2, but I believed a comeback was possible. The two goals we conceded were mistakes, but our goal came from well-created chances. Therefore, the atmosphere in the locker room didn’t significantly drop. I think we gained confidence that we are not going to lose.”
He continued, “After finishing the first half, I tried not to get down myself and told the players that ‘we can do this.’ I thought we could catch up and turn it around because I had a similar experience against Daegu.”
That day, Kim Jin-su left a feeling of regret after conceding a penalty kick due to a handball foul in the first half. However, in the second half, he redeemed himself with a precise cross that assisted Moon Seon-min's goal.
In particular, after the goal, Kim Jin-su encouraged the fans to cheer and received applause for his selfless defense until the end of the match.
Kim Jin-su conveyed, “I feel sorry for my teammates for conceding a penalty kick because of my mistake. I focused on contributing to the team rather than overexerting myself to make up for it. I’m glad to have been able to assist with the first goal. In the end, we could have scored more goals, but the opposing goalkeeper kept making great saves. I didn’t intentionally extend my arm, but since it hit my arm, I didn’t dispute it. I felt a great sense of regret towards my teammates and the fans.”
He added, “I practice crossing a lot as well. When breaking down the flank, I continuously train on where to put in the cross. There was also one more player besides Moon Seon-min, so I crossed after checking both players.”
Kim Jin-su also expressed his determination for the next match, saying, “I felt a lot of regret towards the fans. I made that gesture to uplift the atmosphere when one or two goals went in. Although we were losing the match, I didn’t think we would lose. In the second half, it was definitely a match we could turn around. I have to reflect on the goals we conceded in the first half and will prepare better for the next match.”
