Angie Postecoglou, the Tottenham manager (59), commented on Son Heung-min's (33, Tottenham) contract renewal. He conveyed that nothing has been specifically addressed yet.

According to British media 'Sports Mall' on the 13th (Korean time), Postecoglou expressed his opinion that the issue regarding Son Heung-min's contract will be "addressed at an appropriate time," noting that "there are no updated contents (related to the renewal) yet."

Tottenham activated the one-year extension option in Son Heung-min's contract in January this year.

Son Heung-min, whose contract was initially set to expire at the end of this season, has extended his contract with Tottenham until next season.

Son Heung-min aims to shake off the 'frustration of being trophy-less' during his 10 years at Tottenham this season. He is set to face Frankfurt in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) quarterfinal second leg on the 18th. Tottenham drew 1-1 in the first leg at home on the 11th.

With the focus entirely on Tottenham's chances of winning the Europa League, discussions regarding Son Heung-min's contract renewal have faded from recent issues.

However, on the night of the 13th, ahead of the Premier League match between Tottenham and Wolverhampton, Postecoglou's comments on Son Heung-min's contract renewal again brought his future into discussion.

Postecoglou fact-checked that there has been no progress related to Son Heung-min's contract renewal since Tottenham activated his one-year extension option.

He informed that "Tottenham has not made any significant moves after exercising the contract extension option" and anticipated that "the renewal discussions may happen at an appropriate time."

Postecoglou added, "I don't think the (timing for contract renewal discussions) is now. After the season ends, we must review the overall squad situation and set future plans for the club; I think discussions will take place then."

He also stated, "If I am still in charge of Tottenham (after this season), I am confident that Son Heung-min will be part of that process."

Many British media reports suggest that if Tottenham fails to win the Europa League, Chairman Daniel Levy is likely to dismiss Postecoglou. The manager, aware of this atmosphere, has claimed that if he successfully remains, he will continue with Son Heung-min.

'Sports Mall' faced reality. The media explained that, "If Son Heung-min's contract, signed in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen for about £26.1 million (around 48.6 billion won), ends next summer, Tottenham may have to let him go as a free agent (FA). If Tottenham does not sign a new deal with Son Heung-min, this summer or next January could be the last opportunity to cash in on him."

However, 'Sports Mall' argued that it would be best for Son Heung-min and Tottenham to sign a renewal.

The media noted, "Amid disappointing Premier League results for Tottenham this season, Son Heung-min has not been able to avoid criticism. However, his offensive metrics remain among the top. Over the past nine seasons, he has recorded double-digit offensive points in the Premier League each season. This season, he has achieved 10 assists and 7 goals." They added, "He is also serving as a great mentor to young talents like Mikey Moore and Wilson Odobert. Given the situation, it seems difficult for Tottenham to sell Son Heung-min this summer due to contract issues."

He added, "Currently, since there is almost no profit from a transfer, if Son Heung-min, who has dedicated 11 years to the team, leaves as a free agent, Tottenham should not be criticized. However, if Son Heung-min maintains his performance and health through the 2025-2026 season (without leaving this summer), there is a good chance he will receive a short contract extension. Even if Tottenham remains trophy-less again this season, it would be even more likely if they show potential for improvement."
