Tottenham Hotspur drew at home.
On the 11th (Korea time), Tottenham drew 1-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, during the first leg of the quarterfinals of the 2024-2025 season UEFA Europa League (UEL).
That day, Tottenham utilized a 4-3-3 formation. At the front, Son Heung-min, Dominic Solanke, and Brennan Johnson started. Tottenham moved diligently. In the 18th minute of the first half, Solanke delivered a stunning cross from the left flank toward the box. Johnson ran in to head it, but the opposing defense intervened quickly.
Eventually, Tottenham equalized. In the 26th minute of the first half, Porro connected a fantastic backheel shot to Madison's low and fast pass from the left flank to score the equalizer.
Building on the momentum, Tottenham aimed for a second goal. In the 29th minute of the first half, they earned a free kick from a somewhat deep position on the left. Son Heung-min took the kick, but it lacked accuracy. The ball sailed into the air. Son Heung-min was caught on camera raising his hands above his head, seemingly apologizing to his teammates.
Frankfurt missed a crucial chance. In the 45th minute of the first half, Ekitike calmly shot at the left side of the goal after receiving a short pass from behind, with no defense in front of him. However, he was thwarted by a save from the goalkeeper.
The first half ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the 9th minute of the second half, Tottenham faced misfortune as the ball hit the goalpost. Beryval took a powerful shot towards the opposite goal from near the right corner of the box, but struck the goal frame.
A minute later, Son Heung-min took a turn. He made a stunning curling shot from the left flank. The ball curved beautifully toward the goal. The goalkeeper made a super save. A follow-up corner kick chance saw Bentancur's header also miss the target.
Relieved, Frankfurt gradually launched another attack. In the 18th minute of the second half, Bahoya received a header pass from Götze and attempted a right-footed shot from the center of the box. However, the ball went over the goal.
Tottenham made a substitution in the 34th minute of the second half. Madison, Udogie, and Son Heung-min were substituted for Pape Sarr, Jed Spence, and Mathys Tel.
Tottenham were busy until the end. In the 37th minute of the second half, Johnson, who had recently been on fire, targeted a comeback goal. He finished a ball coming in from the flank with a left-footed inside shot. However, the ball soared into the air. In the 41st minute of the second half, Solanke's surprise shot also failed to get past the goalkeeper.
Both teams struggled to find the winning goal, but neither side achieved the desired result.
Having drawn at home, Tottenham will play the away leg against Frankfurt on the 18th.
