Reports have emerged that Tottenham is set to pursue the signing of Takefusa Kubo from Real Sociedad.

Football FanCast reported on the 9th (Korean time) that "Tottenham will not fully sign Timo Werner. Werner will leave the team at the end of this season."

Football FanCast released a list of 10 replacements for Werner, with Japanese national team forward Kubo included as a priority, drawing attention.

It was also reported that "Kubo has been shining since joining Real Sociedad in 2022. He can play not only as a winger but also as an attacking midfielder. Rumors have circulated since the end of last year that he could be transferred for £50 million (943 million won)."

There is a reason Kubo could join Tottenham: head coach Ange Postecoglou.

Football FanCast explained, "Kubo received guidance from head coach Postecoglou during his loan spell at Yokohama Marinos from August 2018 to January of the following year" and noted, "Postecoglou would likely want to utilize Kubo again."

It was further reported that "Since last summer, several teams including Tottenham and Liverpool have shown interest in Kubo. There is also a significant possibility of reuniting with former coach Postecoglou."

Kubo returned to Japan in 2015 after Barcelona received punishment from the FIFA for violating regulations regarding transfers of players under 18. He played with FC Tokyo and Yokohama Marinos. In the 2018 season, when Kubo was loaned to Yokohama, the team's head coach was none other than the current Tottenham coach, Postecoglou. Under Postecoglou, Kubo scored his debut goal in the J1 League. Afterward, he joined Real Madrid and played on loan with multiple teams including RCD Mallorca, Villarreal, and Getafe, before transferring to Sociedad in 2022, steadily building his career in La Liga. Recently, he has faced criticism due to inconsistency but continues to enjoy considerable popularity, being linked with several clubs, including Liverpool and Atlético Madrid.

Tottenham has already shown interest in signing Kubo.

Last year, The Hard Tackle reported, "Tottenham is interested in the 23-year-old Japanese national team winger" and noted, "It will be interesting to see if Tottenham will indeed pay the buyout clause of €60 million (90 billion won)."

The president of Real Sociedad, who blocked Kubo's transfer last season, is also preparing for a parting.

Football FanCast predicted, "The president of Real Sociedad understands that Kubo has to choose from the love calls coming from across Europe" and stated, "Kubo is set to move to a big club soon."
