KXO and Hongcheon County discussed collaborating with NBA Asia for the expanded operation of the 'Global Youth Basketball Supercup' and the development of Korean youth basketball.
Since 2024, KXO (Korea 3x3 Basketball Federation) and Hongcheon County (Mayor Shin Young-jae) have been hosting the 'Global Youth Basketball Supercup (hereafter referred to as Supercup)' and are focused on improving the international competitiveness of Korean youth basketball. They met with NBA Asia to advance discussions about the Supercup.
KXO and Hongcheon County, visiting Singapore for participation in the FIBA 3x3 APEC Workshop and attendance at the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2025, met with NBA Asia, which is developing the Junior NBA, to exchange various opinions on the Supercup. In attendance were NBA Asia Senior Vice President Ed Winkle, NBA Asia Senior Manager Natalia Andre, Hongcheon County Sports Council President Shin Eun-seop, Hongcheon County Education and Sports Department Director Lee Sung-hee, Hongcheon County Education and Sports Department Sports Promotion Team Leader Park Jong-su, and KXO Executive Director Song Tae-hoon.
Amid the common theme of 'youth basketball,' they shared data regarding the three Supercups previously conducted by KXO and discussed ways NBA Asia and the Supercup could collaborate. Positive opinions were exchanged among KXO, Hongcheon County, and NBA Asia about how to work together on the Supercup.
Shin Eun-seop, President of the Hongcheon County Sports Council, noted, "Since 2024, we have been hosting the Supercup during the summer and winter vacation seasons. Each tournament brings overseas teams to Korea to compete with domestic players, creating a virtuous cycle where they enjoy Korea's sights and cuisine before returning home, which is the essence of the Supercup."
He also said, "From a sports marketing perspective, the Supercup is an excellent content, and we requested a meeting with NBA Asia for its development. NBA Asia readily accepted, leading to this productive meeting. Several ideas emerged, and we will strive to continue our exchanges with NBA Asia in the long term, ensuring the Supercup evolves into an international youth basketball tournament."
KXO Executive Director Song Tae-hoon stated, "NBA Asia is also involved in the Junior NBA, so there is a strong interest in youth basketball. Thanks to that, the meetings regarding the Supercup were conducted in a positive atmosphere. As KXO, Hongcheon County, and NBA Asia shared insights through the Supercup, we will continue to communicate with NBA Asia to ensure the Supercup can develop into valuable international youth basketball content."
The Global Youth Basketball Supercup, which started in 2024, is set to host its fourth tournament in July this year.
