The future of the Lotte Giants mound, Jeon Mi-re and Jin Seung-hyeon, will both enlist in the military.
Lotte announced on the 10th that pitcher Jeon Mi-re, Jin Seung-hyeon, and infielder Kang Seong-woo have been selected for the second recruitment of the Military Athletic Corps (Sangmu) for 2025.
Jeon Mi-re, a first-round pick in the 2024 rookie draft, recorded 1 win, 5 losses, 1 save, and 5 holds with an earned run average of 5.88 in 36 games last year. Although he showed confident pitching against first-team batters early in the season, he later experienced elbow pain, leading to ligament surgery in December of last year, and he began rehabilitation. Jeon Mi-re plans to focus on rehabilitation during his military service.
Jin Seung-hyeon, a second-round pitcher in the 2022 rookie draft, also passed the military recruitment this time. He has a record of 2 wins, 3 losses, 1 hold, and an earned run average of 6.91 over his career in 41 first-team games. Last year, due to shoulder pain and hamstring issues, he did not receive many opportunities in the first team. In May of last year, he applied for the third recruitment of Sangmu in 2024 but was unable to enlist due to hamstring pain during the physical test following the first document selection.
Kang Seong-woo, a fifth-round infielder in the 2024 rookie draft, will also fulfill his military obligations alongside Jeon Mi-re and Jin Seung-hyeon.
Jeon Mi-re, Jin Seung-hyeon, and Kang Seong-woo will enlist at the Army Training Center in Nonsan, Chungnam, on May 12, and begin their military service. They are set to be discharged on November 11, 2026.
