Kim Hye-sung, who is playing in Triple-A, is set to face off against David Buchanan, who previously excelled as the ace for Samsung, in the minor leagues.
Kim Hye-sung's team, Oklahoma City Camites, will play against the Triple-A Round Rock Express at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas, on the 10th (Korean time).
Kim Hye-sung has been named in the starting lineup as the number 1 center fielder. After being demoted to the minor leagues due to hitting struggles at the end of spring camp, Kim Hye-sung is recording a .308 batting average, 9 RBIs, and 4 stolen bases in Triple-A. Despite showing good statistics, he has not yet received an opportunity to debut in Major League Baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
However, the starting pitcher for Round Rock that day is Buchanan, familiar to Korean fans. Buchanan recorded 54 wins and 28 losses with a 3.02 ERA over four seasons with the Samsung Lions from 2020 to 2023.
Buchanan rejected Samsung's re-signing and signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies in February of last year to challenge for the Major Leagues.
Buchanan played in Triple-A under Philadelphia and was traded to the Cincinnati Reds last August, where he also received a call-up to the big leagues. However, after one game appearance, recording 3.1 innings, 2 hits allowed, and 1 earned run, he was released.
After being transferred to Triple-A under Cincinnati, Buchanan recorded 11 wins and 3 losses with a 4.86 ERA in the minor leagues last year.
Buchanan has signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers this season and is challenging for the big leagues. He has pitched in 2 games in Triple-A with an ERA of 1.93 and no decisions.
