The formation of the 55th executive committee of the Korea Football Association has been completed. Kim Seung-hee, a field expert who has served only as a player and coach for 35 years at Daejeon Korail, has been unexpectedly appointed as the executive director.
Jeong Mong-kyu, president of the Korea Football Association, announced the list of the new executive committee (27 members) on the 9th, including vice presidents, subcommittee chairs, and board members. The general assembly held on the 4th delegated the authority to appoint the executive committee to President Jeong in accordance with Article 24 of the association's bylaws.
The 55th executive committee has reverted to a structure with an executive director from the football community. President Jeong Mong-kyu appointed Kim Seung-hee (56), the coach of Daejeon Korail, as executive director after careful consideration to enhance communication with the field and to seek answers for change and innovation from on-ground experience.
The newly appointed executive director, Kim Seung-hee, graduated from Myongji University and joined the Korea National Railroad (now Daejeon Korail) in 1990, serving as a player, coach, and director for 35 years with just one team, making him a 'one-club man.' President Jeong expressed his determination to start innovation in the football community by selecting him as the head of practical administration in the association, as he is well aware of the ground realities functioning effectively in the K3 League.
Executive Director Kim is recognized as a suitable candidate with a high understanding of the core policies of the association, such as completing the division system and expanding the base of student athletes, and is able to coordinate various stakeholders. He noted, “I feel a heavy sense of responsibility. Above all, I will strive to ensure that the voices from the field are accurately reflected in the association's administration.”
The vice president group has been established with five members based on recommendations from functional organizations. Shin Jeong-sik, president of the Jeonnam Football Association, representing the 17 provincial and municipal associations, and Kim Byung-ji, president of Gangwon FC, joined as vice presidents. To support each national representative team according to their respective work areas, Park Hang-seo, former coach of the Vietnam national team, Shin Tae-yong, former coach of the Indonesia national team, and Professor Lee Yong-soo from Sejong University, specializing in vision and strategy, were also included.
The subcommittee has been reorganized from eight to nine. The Communication Committee and the International Committee have been newly established, and the Social Contribution Committee has been abolished. The National Team Performance Enhancement Committee is led by Hyun Young-min, a Sky Sports commentator. The 45-year-old Hyun Young-min was appointed as the youngest chairperson since the launch of the previous committee, reflecting President Jeong Mong-kyu's commitment to nurturing young administrators from the football community. The Technical Development Committee will be headed by former Jeonnam coach Lee Jang-kwan, and the Tournament Committee will be led by Kim Hyun-tae, former head of the Daejeon Performance Enhancement Office, while the Referee Committee will be managed by Moon Jin-hee, former chairperson of the Referee Committee. The Medical Committee will be chaired by Dr. Kim Kwang-jun from Shinchon Severance Hospital, while the Ethics Committee will be led by Kim Yoon-joo, an attorney from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
The newly established Communication Committee will be led by former Sports Seoul editorial director Wi Won-seok. The Communication Committee will oversee various communication and promotional tasks to showcase the direction of the 55th executive committee, which prioritizes 'fan communication and public communication.' The newly created International Committee will be led by Jeon Han-jin, vice president of the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF), which will play a role in enhancing international expertise related to the Asian Cup hosting efforts and various FIFA-related tasks.
The chairpersons of major subcommittees, including the Performance Enhancement Committee, will work as full-time executives through amendments to the bylaws, and the association will support them to implement responsible administration along with their authority.
The Fairness Committee (Chairperson So Jin) is set to be appointed from outside of the association's executives according to regulations. During the general assembly in 2024, a chairperson and members were appointed for a two-year term, and once the current Fairness Committee's term expires, successors will be appointed at the 2026 assembly. Board members were selected primarily from various level coaches and field experts to ensure diverse opinions are reflected in policies. To promote 'open administration,' the process differed from before, as multiple recommendations from representative organizations in each field were accepted before finalizing the board members through personnel verification. Jo Yeon-sang, secretary-general of the Korea Professional Football Federation, Lee Jeong-hyo, coach of Gwangju FC, and Kim Do-geun, coach of Gangneung City FC, were appointed.
As amateur representatives, Oh Hae-jong, coach of Chung-Ang University, Yoon Jong-seok, coach of Jang Hoon High School for the U-18, Shin Byung-ho, coach of Jeju Middle School for the U-15, Kim Min-deok, coach of Jingeon Elementary School for the U-12, and Lee Mi-yeon, coach for women's football, joined. For the men's and women's player representatives, Kim Ho-nam (former Bucheon FC) and Jeon Ga-eul (former Sejong Sports Toto) were listed. Lee Bo-yoon, president of the Changnyeong Football Association, represented community football/club members, while Professor Yoon Young-gil from the Korea National Sport University and Jeong Hee-don, president of the Asian Sports Journalists Federation, were appointed to represent academia and the media, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Korea Football Association has decided to bring in administrative experts with over 20 years of experience in contributing to the development of football as appointed advisors to consult on various policy formations and implementations. Consequently, former president of the University Football Federation, Byeon Seok-hwa, and former president of the Jeonbuk Football Association, Kim Dae-eun, have been appointed as advisors.
