Kang Sung-hoon (38), who primarily competed on the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour, will focus on the KPGA Tour this year. Kang said, "It's been a while since my return, so it feels unfamiliar, but I'm excited."
Kang Sung-hoon will compete on the KPGA Tour this season under the 'returning foreign tour seed holder' seed category.
Although Kang Sung-hoon was also registered in the KPGA Tour seed category in 2019, he only participated in one tournament at that time. He did not hold a KPGA Tour seed until last year, but he has successfully secured a seed this year.
Kang Sung-hoon said, "This is a return to the KPGA Tour after a long time. It feels unfamiliar, but I'm excited. I want to participate in as many tournaments as possible in the first half of the year," adding, "There are many courses that I haven't experienced. While there is a difference in skill compared to the past, I think it will be enjoyable to compete with junior players and those I had a good relationship with."
Kang Sung-hoon, who wore the Taegeuk mark from 2003 to 2006, won the 'Lotte Skyhill Open' on the KPGA Tour as an amateur in April 2006. He also won a gold medal in the team event at the 'Doha Asian Games' held in Qatar that December.
After officially debuting on the KPGA Tour in 2007, Kang Sung-hoon won at the 'Eugene Securities Open' in 2010, the 'CJ Invitational Hosted by KJ Choi' in 2013, and the 'KOLON 56th Korean Open'.
From 2011, Kang consistently competed on the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour, recording his first PGA Tour victory at the 'AT&T Byron Nelson' in 2019. He also balanced participation in the DP World Tour, PGA Tour, and Korn Ferry Tour until last year. He participated in the 'Genesis Championship,' held in October, as part of the DP World Tour, playing in front of domestic fans after a long time.
Kang Sung-hoon's goal this season is 'consistent play.'
Kang said, "I want to focus on playing in a way that satisfies myself rather than being obsessed with results. If I play consistently, the results will naturally follow."
He added, "I prepared harder this season than ever before. I trained well under a systematic curriculum. I’ve conditioned my body well. There are many technical improvements as well. In particular, I recently finished swing adjustments, and I'm practicing hard to apply them in actual play," stating, "I am doing weight training 3 to 4 times a week. When I play rounds, I carry my own bag and walk. I've lost about 7 to 8 kg but increased my muscle mass. My endurance has improved as well."
Kang Sung-hoon has been named on the list of participants for the opening tournament of the 2025 season, the '20th DB Insurance Promi Open,' which will be held at Ravivelle CC in Chuncheon, Gangwon, starting from the 17th.
