The professional baseball NC Dinos have escaped a three-game losing streak. After the victory, they paid tribute to the victims who died from the collapse of a structure at Changwon NC Park with a moment of silence.
On the 5th, NC won 7-5 against the Kiwoom Heroes at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. They broke their recent three-game losing streak, recording 4 wins and 5 losses.
With a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the ninth, NC closer Ryu Jin-wook induced a ground ball to the second baseman from Cardenas with two outs and a runner on first base. The second baseman fielded it and tossed it to the shortstop to end the game. After the victory, NC players gathered on the mound to pay tribute to the victims with a moment of silence instead of celebrating.
Although NC ended their three-game losing streak with a victory after nine days, no one was smiling. The atmosphere was heavy, almost as if they were the losing team. Ahead of the three-game series against Kiwoom on the 4th, captain Park Min-woo stated that individual celebrations by players during home runs or hits were temporarily prohibited.
After the game, Park Min-woo said, "I told the players in the top of the ninth that if we win, we should gather on the mound to pay tribute. It’s an expression of our condolences for the victims."
Son Ah-seop, who recorded two hits and two RBIs in the game, said, "My heart is heavy. Yesterday, I couldn’t focus very well. The atmosphere is heavy, but since many fans came to watch yesterday and today, I thought we absolutely had to win. It’s heavy on my heart, but I tried to concentrate as much as possible during the game."
Park Gun-woo said, "I pray for the repose of the deceased who passed away in this accident, and I will do my best in every game with a prayerful heart."
NC starter Riley gave up a three-run home run to Kiwoom's Park Joo-hong in the second inning, falling behind 0-3. In the third inning, Han Jae-hwan reached base with a single to left, and after one out, Kim Joo-won's two-run home run cut the deficit to 2-3. Then, Son Ah-seop hit a triple to center-right, and with two outs and a runner on third, Park Gun-woo hit a double off the left-center fence to tie the game at 3-3. NC created a scoring opportunity with a walk by Park Se-hyuk and a single to right by Park Min-woo after one out in the fourth inning. With two outs and runners on second and third, Son Ah-seop delivered a timely single to right, turning the game around to 5-3. NC allowed one run due to a wild pitch from the pitcher in the fourth, and in the fifth inning, they allowed a sacrifice fly with one out and the bases loaded to tie the game at 5-5.
In the top of the sixth, NC secured another scoring opportunity due to a hit-by-pitch to Park Min-woo and a walk to Kim Joo-won. After one out, Davidson hit a timely single to right, and Park Gun-woo added to the score with a sacrifice fly to center, making it 7-5.
NC starter Riley pitched 4⅓ innings (98 pitches), giving up two hits, one home run, five walks, and striking out five while allowing five runs. The subsequent bullpen, including Kim Min-kyu (0 innings), Choi Seong-young (1⅔ innings), Kim Jae-yeol (⅓ inning), Jeon Sa-min (1⅔ innings), and Ryu Jin-wook (1 inning), each pitched scoreless to secure the victory.
In the batting lineup, Park Min-woo recorded two hits and two runs in four at-bats, Kim Joo-won had one hit and one home run with two RBIs in four at-bats, Son Ah-seop had two hits and two RBIs in five at-bats, and Park Gun-woo also had two hits and two RBIs in four at-bats.
