Who would have thought that Jeongkwanjang would do this well? Megawati Putriwi, known as Indonesia's Kim Yeon-koung, delayed her idol Kim Yeon-koung's retirement once again. The women's championship match will ultimately be filled with the 5th game.
Jeongkwanjang achieved a full-set victory with a score of 3-2 (25-20, 24-26, 36-34, 22-25, 15-12) in the 4th match of the Dodram 2024-2025 season V-League women's championship final held on the 6th at Daejeon Chungmu Gymnasium against Heungkuk Life. Megawati exploded with a total of 38 points, the highest for both teams.
After losing the first two games held in Incheon, Jeongkwanjang was on the brink but regained balance with a series record of 2 wins and 2 losses by winning the 3rd and 4th games held at home in Daejeon. It was critical that they won the 3rd match with a reverse sweep after losing the 1st and 2nd sets.
After suffering a shocking reversal and losing up to the 4th match, Heungkuk Life is aiming for a championship celebration at home in Incheon. The last game of Kim Yeon-koung, who announced her retirement at the end of this season, will be the championship match 5th game on the 8th in Incheon.
From the first set, Jeongkwanjang aggressively pressured Heungkuk Life. Megawati led the attack, while blocking and quick attacks from Park Eun-jin took the lead. With Yoo Sung-joo's open attack and service ace, Jeongkwanjang steadily widened the score as Jung Ho-young blocked Kim Yeon-koung's attack. Jeongkwanjang, which never lost the lead from 6 points, comfortably took the first set 25-20. Megawati scored 8 points. Heungkuk Life struggled with receiving despite Kim Yeon-koung scoring 6 points.
In the second set, Heungkuk Life countered. From the early stage of the set, Jeongkwanjang took a 23-18 lead as Megawati and Bukirich’s twin towers and Jung Ho-young’s attacks thrived. Although the atmosphere suggested Jeongkwanjang would win the set, Heungkuk Life found their strength. Starting with Kim Yeon-koung's timed attack, a three consecutive scores from Tutku suddenly made it a deuce. With an open score from Kim Yeon-koung and a block from Tutku, Heungkuk Life won the second set 26-24. Tutku exploded with 10 points, including 3 blocks in the second set.
The third set became a crucial battleground. In a tense flow, Heungkuk Life took the lead with Kim Yeon-koung's back attack and Jeong Yoon-joo's blocking, but Jeongkwanjang caught up with Megawati’s quick open and blocking. The match continued into another deuce, as Kim Yeon-koung achieved her first postseason cumulative score of 1,000 points before committing a service error.
Amid tremendous competition, Jeongkwanjang emerged victorious in the end. After reaching a tie at 34-34, Jeongkwanjang finished the lengthy third set 36-34, following Bukirich's open attack and Yeom Hae-seon's service ace. Jeongkwanjang evened the score after losing the second set in the 3rd match by the same score. Megawati recorded 9 points in just the third set.
Bouncing back from the disappointment of the third set, Heungkuk Life launched a counterattack in the fourth set. In addition to Kim Yeon-koung and Tutku, Jeong Yoon-joo, who struggled with reception in the third set, found stability and took the lead. However, Jeongkwanjang was not easily defeated, as Megawati and Bukirich pressured, closing the gap to just one point. Yet, Heungkuk Life ended the fourth set with Kim Yeon-koung’s quick open attack followed by a block. Kim Yeon-koung exploded with 9 points, including 1 block, in the fourth set.
In the final fifth set, fortunes diverged. Heungkuk Life reached 10 points first, but Jeongkwanjang showed great resilience at 7-10. Following Megawati's back attack and Yeom Hae-seon's service ace, Jeongkwanjang turned the tables with attacks from Megawati and Yeom Hae-seon. After a series of successful defenses, Jeongkwanjang scored 5 consecutive times, including Bukirich's block, ultimately winning the fifth set 15-12. Megawati shone as a problem solver, scoring 6 points up to the final match point.
