Professional baseball SSG Landers' Drew Anderson (31) is returning home during maternity leave.
SSG announced on April 6 that "Anderson is scheduled to return today (April 6) after completing his maternity leave. The initial due date for his first child was March 26, but he is returning before the birth due to delays, as of April 6."
Anderson is a right-handed foreign pitcher entering his second year in the KBO. He joined SSG last season as a substitute for Robert Dugger and successfully secured a re-contract for a total of $1.2 million (approximately 180 million won).
Anderson, who has recorded 1 loss and an earned run average of 7.27 in 2 games (8 and two-thirds innings) this year, took maternity leave on March 29 to go to Japan where his wife was. However, with the birth being delayed, he decided to return to the team to prepare for his next appearance.
SSG stated, "Anderson hoped for an early return to maintain his routine and join the team, and while the club expressed its opposition, his strong will was respected." They added, "After returning home, he plans to spend 1-2 days in Japan with his family once the baby is born."
After his last appearance against Kiwoom on March 28 (5 innings, 6 hits allowed (1 home run), 3 walks, 6 strikeouts, 5 runs, 3 earned runs, and a loss), Anderson, who has not pitched since, will assess his physical condition after returning and then determine his exact pitching schedule.
