The Hanwha Eagles made adjustments to their roster. Amid a severe slump in offense, they have entered a four-game losing streak and made changes to their pitching roster.

Hanwha excluded right-hander Taeyang Lee from the first team ahead of the game against Samsung in Daegu on the 5th and called up left-hander Beomsoo Kim. This marks Taeyang's first absence from the first team this season. Beomsoo, who was removed from the first team roster on the 26th of last month, returned after completing the ten-day re-registration period.

Taeyang has recorded a 1 loss and an earned run average of 4.15 over 6 games this season. With a performance of 4⅓ innings, 5 hits allowed, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts, and 2 earned runs, he also pitched 1 inning allowing 1 hit and striking out 1 without allowing any earned runs against Samsung in the game the previous day (on the 4th). His pitch count was only 10, and although it was not in consecutive games, he was removed from the roster.

There is no issue with his physical condition. Hanwha manager Kyung-moon Kim noted, "There are no injuries. Taeyang has been working hard and has performed well, but we want to give Beomsoo an opportunity as well."

Beomsoo has only played in 1 game in the first team this season. On the 25th of last month, he appeared in relief in the 8th inning against LG in Jamsil, allowing a one-RBI single to Austin Dean in a bases-loaded situation, and he allowed 2 two-RBI doubles to Bo-Kyoung Moon while bringing home all 3 inherited runners.

Although he induced a pop-up from O Ji-hwan at shortstop, he was unable to complete the inning due to a fielding error by Shim Woo-jun and was removed after throwing only 13 pitches. The following day, Beomsoo received notification of his demotion to the second team; he then pitched 2 games in the Futures League, throwing 3 innings with 1 hit allowed, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout without allowing any earned runs, achieving 1 hold.

Meanwhile, Hanwha, shocked by a 3-hit, no-run performance against Samsung on the 4th, has already found itself in 10th place with a record of 3 wins and 8 losses. The team has a batting average of .173 and an OPS of .507, both ranking at the bottom as they struggle to average only 2.5 runs per game.

However, there are no changes to the position players. The only modifications came when catcher Heo In-seo and outfielder Lee Sang-hyuk were sent down to the second team on the 24th of last month, and infielder Kwon Kwang-min on the 27th, coinciding with the arrival of a starting pitcher. Even after two weeks since the opening, no position players have been called up from the second team.

Hanwha's lineup against Samsung's left-handed starter Seung-hyun Lee on this day featured Hwang Young-mook (2nd base), An Chi-hong (designated hitter), Kim Tae-yeon (left field), Noh Si-hwan (3rd base), Chae Eun-sung (1st base), Estevan Florial (center field), Lee Jin-young (right field), Choi Jae-hoon (catcher), and Shim Woo-jun (shortstop). Other than the fact that the 7th batting position of right fielder changed from Lee Won-seok to Lee Jin-young, the lineup remained unchanged from the previous day.

While there have been few changes to the batting order, there are signs of changes in the utilization of the position players. Moon Hyun-bin, who came in as a pinch hitter in the 8th inning the previous day, immediately entered the left field defense. Although he had only prepared for the role of third baseman this season, he made his first appearance in the outfield. He has played 70 games (64 starts) as a center fielder during 2023, accumulating 519 innings of outfield defense; however, since last year, he has only been playing as an infielder.

Manager Kim related to Moon Hyun-bin's outfield usage stated, "Since his batting hasn’t been going as well as expected, we are planning for him to also play left field. (In) the previous year, he also played center field, so I think he will alternate between third base and the outfield," adding, "I usually prefer players to play only one position, but our current situation is urgent," indicating that he will broaden the defensive utilization of players to increase offensive power.
