Leo of Hyundai Capital Skywalkers (35) was awarded the MVP of the championship match for the third time in his career.
Hyundai Capital won the championship match against Korean Air Jumbo's on the 5th at Incheon Gyeyang Gymnasium in the 'Dodram 2024-2025 V-League' championship match, with a set score of 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23), achieving a series record of 3 victories and claiming the championship title.
Leo scored 19 points (attack success rate of 47.1%), leading to victory alongside Heo Soo-bong (22 points). Over the three matches, Leo scored a total of 69 points, shouldering the attacking responsibilities of Hyundai Capital, and became the MVP of the championship match by receiving 23 votes out of 32.
In a post-match interview, Leo said, "This is a moment we have truly been waiting for since the start of the season." He expressed, "I am very happy to achieve this today. I believe it is very meaningful to be able to make history together since I joined Hyundai Capital for the first time. I will continue to play volleyball with the feelings of victory from today."
After lifting the MVP of the championship match for the third time in his career, following the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 seasons, Leo said, "I really like this result. Although I worked hard during the season, it was not to win an award. I worked hard for victory. The MVP of the championship match is an award that I have been waiting for. It has a deep meaning." He then smiled and added, "Heo Soo-bong can take the season MVP."
Korean Air coach Tomi Tiilikainen noted, "Leo used techniques he had never used much before this season, and they worked well. Just like that, one must always bring in new things." In response, Leo said, "There is nothing particularly different from last year. If anything has changed, it’s the team members. I think we have two aces (Jeon Kwang-in and Heo Soo-bong) in our team, and the blocking was shared, allowing for various attacking directions. That’s why I think other coaches felt I had changed."
Having played for a team that heavily relied on him before, Leo said, "Honestly, when Hyundai Capital chose me, of course I was happy, but I had questions about how they would utilize me in a team with two Korean aces (Jeon Kwang-in and Heo Soo-bong). But as I trained with my teammates, I adapted well to this system."
Meeting with manager Blanc, who emphasizes fundamentals at Hyundai Capital, Leo shared, "When I was younger, I could hit hard without doing strength training or conditioning as long as I received perfect sets. So, I never felt the need for training. However, now that I have aged and physically I am facing challenges, I am paying much attention to training." He added with a smile, "If I talk about the changes, it used to be that I was often late for training. Now, I keep time well."
