The Kiwoon Heroes suspended their cheerleading operations and decided to cancel events in memory of the victims of the NC Park accident.
On April 4, the Kiwoon Heroes announced through the club's social media that they will not operate the cheerleading team, ground events, or inning events that were scheduled for the NC game from April 4 to April 6 in memory of the victims of the Changwon NC Park.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) held a moment of remembrance for the tragic incident that occurred during the game between the NC Dinos and LG Twins at Changwon NC Park on the 29th of last month. The incident occurred around 5:20 p.m. A structure (2.6 meters long, 40 cm wide aluminum 'louver') fixed to the wall near the third base concession stand fell, injuring three spectators below, one of whom ultimately died after being struck by the structure.
The KBO decided to have a mourning period from the 1st to the 3rd. On the 1st, all KBO League and Futures League games will not be held in memory of the victims. The three-game series between NC and SSG at NC Park, where the accident occurred, was completely canceled, while games at four other stadiums resumed on the 2nd but cheerleading was not conducted until the 3rd.
Cheerleading will resume starting with the game on the day the mourning period ends. However, the Kiwoon Heroes decided to observe an additional mourning period since their weekend opponent is NC, where the accident occurred. The 'Sungshin Women's University Day' event scheduled for this game has been postponed, and the players are expected to wear mourning ribbons. A Kiwoon official noted, "Just because the mourning period is over does not mean we cannot resume cheerleading. However, since our first opponent is NC, the club has decided not to cheer this weekend."
However, the first pitch scheduled for the 5th with actress Shin Ye Eun will go on as planned. The Kiwoon Heroes stated, "We have selected actress Shin Ye Eun as the first pitch thrower for the home game against NC." The performance of the national anthem will also proceed as planned, with 'Yoo Da Bin Band' vocalist Yoo Da Bin expected to sing the anthem.
