Tax coach José Mourinho's strange behavior is under scrutiny.
The British 'BBC' and 'Sky Sports' reported on the 3rd (Korea Standard Time) that "José Mourinho has once again acted out."
The incident occurred at 2:45 a.m. on the 3rd during the quarterfinals of the Turkish Cup held at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey. After losing 1-2 to Galatasaray SK, Mourinho twisted the nose of the opposing coach Okan Buruk.
This act by Mourinho occurred after the final whistle blew in the center of the field. While the coaches of both teams were greeting the referees, Mourinho approached Buruk from behind and appeared to pull his nose, causing Buruk to clutch his face and collapse on the ground.
Galatasaray vice president Metin Öztürk criticized strongly, saying, "Mourinho first attacked verbally and then physically. How dare he do such a thing in Turkey? Where would this be acceptable? Fenerbahçe should impose a penalty before the Turkish Football Association does."
According to Sky Sports, Mourinho was restrained by surrounding staff immediately after the altercation, and Buruk lay on the ground for a while, covering his face and expressing pain. The match ended with Galatasaray winning 2-1, thanks to a multi-goal performance by Victor Osimhen, and concluded in a heated atmosphere with three players ejected due to a bench-clearing altercation in added time.
From Fenerbahçe, Mert Hakan Yandaş was ejected, and from Galatasaray, Kerem Demirbay and Barış Alper Yılmaz were sent off.
After the match, Buruk said in a press conference, "I just pinched his nose a little, and I got a light injury. It was undignified behavior, but I won't escalate this further," cautioning against intensifying the conflict.
On the other hand, Galatasaray's official social media posted cryptic phrases such as "Don’t attack, digest it," along with photos of the two coaches, and shared an animated video mocking Mourinho, escalating the controversy.
Meanwhile, Mourinho faced criticism in February for alleged racist comments made after a league match against Galatasaray, for which the Turkish Football Association imposed a four-match suspension and a £35,000 fine. Mourinho later filed a defamation lawsuit against Galatasaray.
Currently, Fenerbahçe is in second place in the league, trailing Galatasaray by 6 points, but has played one less match.
