The professional baseball team KT Wiz stopped LG Twins' opening 8-game winning streak.
KT won 9-5 against LG in the 2025 KBO League game held at Suwon KT Wiz Park on the 2nd. KT seized the momentum early with an 8-run big inning in the bottom of the first. Rohas delivered a two-run home run for 2 RBIs, Jang Seong-woo contributed 2 RBIs, Kwon Dong-jin also had 2 RBIs, and Kim Sang-soo was 2-for-2 with 1 RBI and 1 run. LG suffered its first loss of the season after a 7-game winning streak.
Both starting pitchers struggled with control issues. LG starter Hernandez could not last through the first inning, being removed early after pitching ⅔ of an inning, allowing 5 hits (1 home run), 3 walks, and 8 earned runs.
KT starter Oh Won-seok was replaced without fulfilling the winning conditions with a 6-run lead. With a 9-3 lead and 1 out and the bases loaded in the 5th inning, he was substituted for Kim Min-soo. The relief pitcher allowed a run to the inherited baserunners while recording 4⅓ innings, 5 hits, 1 home run, 5 walks, 7 strikeouts, and 5 earned runs.
LG's starting lineup included Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Song Chan-eui (left fielder), Austin (first baseman), Moon Bo-kyung (designated hitter), Park Dong-won (catcher), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Koo Bon-hyuk (third baseman), Park Hae-min (center fielder), and Shin Min-jae (second baseman). Moon Bo-kyung had some discomfort in his right shoulder and felt uneasy while throwing, so he played as a designated hitter.
KT's starting lineup consisted of Rohas (right fielder), Kang Baek-ho (designated hitter), Heo Gyeong-min (third baseman), Kim Min-hyeok (left fielder), Jang Seong-woo (catcher), Kim Sang-soo (second baseman), Oh Yun-seok (first baseman), Bae Jeong-dae (center fielder), and Kwon Dong-jin (shortstop). Manager Lee Kang-cheol noted, "Kang Baek-ho has a style of hitting from the first pitch. Rohas tends to watch the ball a bit more, so we switched them around in the 1-2 spots."
Before the game, both teams held a moment of silence to mourn the victims of the structure collapse at Changwon NC Park. The players wore mourning ribbons in tribute to the victims.
LG regretted not scoring more than 1 run during the bases loaded chance with no outs in the first inning. Lead-off batter Hong Chang-ki reached base on a walk, followed by Song Chan-eui hitting a single up the middle. Austin then drew a walk to create a bases loaded opportunity.
Moon Bo-kyung's sacrifice fly allowed the first run to score. With runners on second and third, the double steal was successful, creating a chance with one out. However, Park Dong-won struck out swinging, and Oh Ji-hwan struck out on three pitches, leaving the team with just one run.
KT's lineup exploded in the bottom of the first inning. They seized the momentum with an 8-run big inning. Lead-off batter Rohas reached base on a walk, and Kang Baek-ho hit a double that bounced off the left-center field wall, tying the game at 1-1. After one out, Kim Min-hyeok reached base on a walk. With one out and runners on first and second, Jang Seong-woo hit a three-RBI double that hit the left-field wall, turning the game around to make it 3-1.
Kim Sang-soo walked, and Oh Yun-seok hit a single that found a gap between first and second bases, creating a bases loaded opportunity with one out. Bae Jeong-dae's sacrifice fly to left field made the score 4-1, and the runners on first and second advanced a base.
With two outs and runners on second and third, Kwon Dong-jin hit a two-run double to add 2 RBIs. Rohas then hit a two-run home run over the right field wall (his first of the season). This was KT's 1300th home run record. They extended their lead to 8-1, prompting LG to replace their pitcher with Lee Ji-gang.
In the bottom of the second, after one out, Kim Min-hyeok hit a double down the right field line, putting him in scoring position. Jang Seong-woo flew out to center field, but Kim Sang-soo hit a timely single to right field, extending the lead to 9-1.
In the third inning, with two outs, Austin hit a solo home run over the center wall, connecting with Oh Won-seok's first pitch clocked at 144 km/h (his fourth of the season), cutting the lead to 9-2. In the fourth, with two outs, Park Hae-min reached base on a straight walk; however, Shin Min-jae's well-hit ball went straight to the shortstop for a line-out.
LG mounted a comeback in the fifth inning. Lead-off batter Hong Chang-ki walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With one out and a runner on second, Austin hit a timely single to right field, closing the gap to 9-3. Moon Bo-kyung hit a single to left, and Park Dong-won earned a walk on a full count after nine pitches, loading the bases with one out.
KT's bench sent out the pitching coach to make a substitution. Oh Won-seok was replaced with Kim Min-soo, two outs away from fulfilling the winning conditions. Oh Ji-hwan hit a single in front of the right fielder, driving in two runners. The score closed to 9-5, with one out and runners on first and third.
Pinch hitter Kim Hyun-soo stepped to the plate. Kim struck out swinging with a foul tip, and Oh Ji-hwan attempted to steal second but was tagged out. With two outs and a runner on third, Kim Hyun-soo grounded out to the shortstop, failing to push the score any further.
Kim Min-soo pitched through the sixth inning without allowing any runs. In the seventh, Won Sang-hyun came in and pitched one inning without giving up any runs. After two outs, he allowed a double to Oh Ji-hwan but ended the inning by getting Moon Jeong-bin to ground out to third.
In the eighth inning, Son Dong-hyun took the mound for KT. He recorded an out against lead-off hitter Park Hae-min with a fly out to center field but issued a walk to Shin Min-jae. He then allowed a hit to Hong Chang-ki in left-center, putting runners on first and second with one out. A pitch clock violation during Song Chan-eui's at-bat resulted in a ball count.
KT replaced the pitcher with Woo Gyu-min. Woo Gyu-min induced Song Chan-eui to ground out to third, getting the lead runner out at second. Although the double play failed, they managed to get out of a jam with two outs and runners on first and third, as he got Austin to pop up to left field without allowing any runs.
In the ninth inning, with KT leading 9-5, closer Park Young-hyun took the mound despite it not being a save situation, and he secured the victory.
