The Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA) successfully concluded the ‘1st AMMA Promotion & Seminar’ at the Momentus Hotel Alexandra in Singapore from March 28 to 30.
AMMA is an organization established to systematically manage and promote mixed martial arts in the region as a direct entity of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). As mixed martial arts was adopted as an official event for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in February, AMMA member associations can participate in the Asian Games with the approval of their National Olympic Committee (NOC).
This seminar marks AMMA’s first official activity following the adoption of mixed martial arts as an official event in the Asian Games and is regarded as an important and meaningful gathering of MMA officials from various Asian countries.
Korean Association of Mixed Martial Arts (KAMMA), which was approved as the first official affiliate in South Korea after the establishment of AMMA in 2022, participated in this event. KAMMA actively engages in all official events organized by AMMA and works to promote the development of mixed martial arts in the country.
Through this seminar, KAMMA completed AMMA’s official training program, thereby obtaining eligibility for the issuance of MMA licenses, which enables it to possess more systematic coaching and event management capabilities. Kim Nae-chul, a director representing the Ring Championship, participated in the seminar and successfully passed all stages of the AMMA ‘Dan’ evaluation, earning the honor of being the first official 1st Dan of KAMMA. This holds significant meaning in the introduction of an official ranking system for mixed martial arts in South Korea and the international standardization process.
KAMMA is the first official affiliate of AMMA in South Korea, participating in all official events since the establishment of AMMA in 2022 and leading the development of mixed martial arts in the country. Notably, KAMMA is the only MMA association in South Korea officially recognized by the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA), which signifies that KAMMA has the unique authority to manage and promote mixed martial arts in adherence to international standards.
KAMMA President Oh Jun-hyuk achieved the milestone of being elected as a Council Member during the GAMMA General Assembly held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 2024. This became an important opportunity for South Korean mixed martial arts to be officially recognized on the international stage, with Oh playing the role of a coordinator between the GAMMA executive board and Asian countries. Additionally, as the representative of all Asian member countries, he holds a key position in enhancing the international status of Asian mixed martial arts. His election as a GAMMA director marks a crucial turning point for South Korean mixed martial arts to expand its influence in the global sports arena, and his various activities in international sports organizations demonstrate his expertise and leadership.
The ‘1st AMMA Promotion & Seminar’ is evaluated as the first step toward the development and systematic operation of mixed martial arts in Asia and is expected to have a significant impact on preparations for the upcoming Asian Games and international competitions.
KAMMA plans to continue its close cooperation with AMMA and GAMMA, leading efforts to cultivate athletes and expand the base of mixed martial arts in South Korea. It is anticipated that various efforts will continue in order for South Korean mixed martial arts to exert stronger influence on the international stage.
