Bayern Munich is suing the Canadian Soccer Association.
Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies joined the Canadian national team during the international match period. Davies played full-time in the Nations League match against Mexico held in Los Angeles, California, on the 21st. Canada lost 0-2.
On the 24th, Davies was also a starter in the third-place match against the United States. However, he was substituted after suffering a knee injury in the 12th minute of the first half. The inspection results showed that Davies suffered a serious injury, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament. This type of injury typically takes more than a year to recover from.
Davies' team, Bayern Munich, reacted immediately. They stated that the Canadian national team was negligent in managing Davies' injury, which worsened the condition.
Munich Director General Christoph Freund noted, "It is a bitter situation for us. The way this happened is not right. I want to know exactly what happened," raising questions.
According to Munich, Davies had already complained of fatigue after the Mexico match, but the Canadian national team did not acknowledge it, which exacerbated his injury. To make matters worse, Davies was not aware of the severity of his injury even on the flight back to Germany.
Freund expressed excitement, saying, "The problem is after the injury. Davies thought it wasn't a serious injury while flying back to Germany for 12 hours. He later discovered the severe injury."
Yankristian Dreßen, president of Munich, is considering suing the Canadian Soccer Association for negligence in managing the injury.
He stated, "Davies boarded the plane without a thorough examination. This is a serious oversight. We will take any legal action available against the Canadian Soccer Association," predicting a muddy fight.
German 'Bild' reported on the 27th, "Bayern star Davies and Upamecano's knee injuries are much more serious than initially expected. Davies not only ruptured his ligament but also sustained cartilage damage. He has already successfully undergone surgery."
The Korea Football Association also clashed with Munich regarding Kim Min-jae's injury. Kim Min-jae had been experiencing issues with his hamstring since October. Ultimately, his injury worsened ahead of the international call-up, preventing him from coming to Korea.
Head Coach Hong Myung-bo expressed regret, stating that there were issues with player protection in Munich when he heard about Kim Min-jae's condition, releasing him from the call-up. This led to debates in Germany, stating, "If the Korean national team was worried about Kim Min-jae, they shouldn’t have included him in the squad since October last year," which escalated the blame game.
