The SSG Landers escaped a long losing streak thanks to strong performances from both pitchers and batters.
On the 14th, SSG won 5-3 against the Kiwoom Heroes in a preseason game of the 2025 Shinhan Bank SOL Bank KBO League held at Incheon SSG Landers Field. With this victory, SSG ended their four-game losing streak.
The SSG lineup showcased 9 hits and 2 home runs. Choi Jeong contributed by going 2-for-3 with a home run, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored, including a consecutive home run from the game on the 13th, leading the team to victory. Choi Jun-woo hit a decisive solo home run, while Eredia and Oh Tae-gon also had multi-hit performances.
Starting pitcher Park Jong-hoon recorded a victory with 4 innings pitched, allowing 5 hits (1 home run), 2 walks, 3 strikeouts, and 2 earned runs. Relief pitcher Kim Gun-woo followed with 4 innings of strong performance, allowing 2 hits (1 home run), 5 strikeouts, and 1 earned run, leaving a strong impression in the competition for the starting pitching role. Lee Roh-un came in during the 9th inning and closed out the game without allowing any earned runs.
In the bottom of the 1st inning with 1 out, Jeong Jun-jae advanced to 2nd base with a walk and a steal. Choi Jeong hit a two-run home run to seize the momentum. Although they conceded a game-tying two-run home run to Jeon Tae-hyun in the top of the 2nd inning, Choi Jun-woo hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 4th inning to regain the lead. With 2 outs in the 5th inning, Choi Jeong hit a single, Eredia was hit by a pitch, and Park Seong-han reached base on a shortstop error to connect a consolidation chance. Oh Tae-gon delivered a 2-RBI single, widening the gap to 5-2. In the top of the 8th inning, Kim Dong-yeop hit a solo home run, but SSG protected their lead without conceding further runs.
After the game, SSG manager Lee Sueng-yong praised the pitchers, stating, “Today, although (Park) Jong-hoon gave up an early home run, his strike rate improved, and he managed his pacing well with runners on base. (Kim) Gun-woo also showed near-perfect aggressive pitching based on his control.”
Stressing that “the team’s lineup is overall coming alive,” manager Lee Sueng-yong noted, “Today, (Choi) Jeong and (Guillermo) Eredia showed good hitting in the center, and particularly, (Choi) Jun-woo not only had good hitting but also demonstrated stable defense in the outfield,” encouraging the batters who delivered strong performances.
Having escaped the four-game losing streak, SSG will play a home two-game series against the LG Twins starting from the 14th at Incheon SSG Landers Field.
