On the 30th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor and police are conducting a search and seizure of related companies in connection with the worker death accident that occurred at the Hansol Paper factory located in Sinthan-jin, Daejeon.
The Daejeon Regional Employment and Labor Office and the Daejeon Police Agency are conducting search and seizure operations with 35 personnel, including labor inspectors and police, at the headquarters of Hansol Paper and the office of the Sinthan-jin factory in Daejeon.
Earlier, around 4 p.m. on the 16th, a worker in his 30s, referred to as A, fell into the entrance of a mixing machine used to process waste paper, a byproduct of the paper product manufacturing process. A was found dead around 2 a.m. the following day, 10 hours after the accident occurred. A was a full-time worker in the processing department of the production team at the paper mill.
Investigation authorities plan to confirm whether there were violations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act based on evidence secured during the search and seizure.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor noted, "We will focus on confirming the cause of the accident and compliance with safety regulations, including whether the safety measures at business sites to prevent workers from falling into the equipment entrance were adequate, and whether warning devices were functioning properly to inform workers that the entrance for waste paper was open." They also stated that they would look into the circumstances surrounding the delay in recognizing that A had gone missing and whether there were any issues with the response measures taken after the accident.
