A man in his 60s has been arrested for killing his son with a homemade firearm in Songdo, Incheon, and for installing flammable materials and ignition devices at his home.
The Incheon Yeonsu Police Station announced on the 22nd that they have arrested Mr. A (62) on charges of murder, violating the Firearms, Swords, and Explosives Safety Control Act, and preparing for arson of an inhabited building.
Yu Ah-ram, Director General of the Incheon District Court's warrant division, stated, "Considering the seriousness of the crime, such as the attempted arson at the residence, there is a risk of flight or destruction of evidence," and issued the arrest warrant. Mr. A did not attend the warrant review, saying, "I don't want to appear," and the review was conducted in writing.
Mr. A is accused of killing his son Mr. B (33) using a homemade firearm during a birthday gathering that Mr. B organized on the 20th, his birthday, at an apartment in Songdo-dong. At the time, it has been established that Mr. B's spouse, two children, and acquaintances were present.
On the same day, 15 flammable materials, including a plastic bottle filled with thinner, a milk container, and a detergent bottle, as well as ignition devices, were discovered at Mr. A's home in Dobong-gu, Seoul. The devices were reportedly set with a timer to ignite at noon on the 21st.
According to the initial autopsy report from the National Forensic Service, Mr. B is presumed to have died from organ damage due to gunshot wounds to the chest and side.
