He stated, "Actively support the volunteer personnel so that they can work smoothly in the flood-affected areas," and added, "Strengthen on-site inspections of rivers and valleys where water has risen, and thoroughly promote public action guidelines, such as prohibiting access to dangerous water play areas."
Minister Yoon also ordered activities including ▲ Epidemic prevention in areas affected by heavy rain ▲ Caution against fires from cooling devices during heatwaves ▲ Management of heat-related illnesses during events with large crowds.
According to the Central Disaster Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, as of the 16th up to recent days, there were 14 deaths and 12 missing persons due to five consecutive days of heavy rain across the country. This figure is based on the announcement at 11 a.m. that day and may change depending on the subsequent rescue situation. Agricultural damage is also significant. As of 5 p.m. the previous day, crops covering 24,247 hectares, including rice, soybeans, melons, watermelons, and peppers, have been inundated, and livestock, including cattle, pigs, and chickens, have also suffered damage, as tentatively tallied.
President Lee Jae-myung instructed regarding the damage from this heavy rain, "Push for the swift declaration of a 'special disaster zone.'"
