As concentrated heavy rainfall exceeding 600㎜ pours down in Sancheong County, Gyeongsangnam-do has raised its emergency work level to the highest level 3 for the fourth consecutive day.
Gyeongsangnam-do elevated the emergency work standard from level 2 (caution) to level 3 (serious) at 12:10 p.m. on the 19th, initiating a full-scale response to the heavy rainfall.
According to the province, 283㎜ of rain fell in Sancheong County between midnight and 1 p.m. on the 19th. The cumulative rainfall in Sicheon-myeon, Sancheong County, reached 740㎜ over the four days since the 16th, with a total of 632㎜ of rain reported in the Sancheong area. Heavy rainfall averaging over 255㎜ has continued for four days in 18 cities and counties in Gyeongsangnam-do, including 532.5㎜ in Hamana County, 502㎜ in Hapcheon County, 349㎜ in Hadong County, and 350㎜ in Changnyeong County.
As of 2:30 p.m. on the 19th, heavy rain warnings have been issued in 14 cities and counties in Gyeongsangnam-do, including Hapcheon and Sancheong, while rain advisories are in effect for the remaining four cities and counties, with localized heavy rainfall continuing.
The Korea Forest Service raised the landslide warning level issued for Gyeongsangnam-do from 'caution' to 'serious' as of 1:30 p.m. that day. Authorities estimate that one person has died due to soil displacement in Buri-myeon, Sancheong-eup. Both Sancheong and Hapcheon counties have seen numerous landslides and soil displacements, leading to increasing damage to dwellings and roads.
Around 10 a.m., the nearby river flooded in the Gahoe-myeon area of Hapcheon County, submerging most of the town's central area. As of 2 p.m., the province has provisionally counted 310 cases of damage to public and private facilities, including roads, rivers, dwellings, and vehicles due to soil displacement, slope failure, and flooding.
