Heavy rain overnight has resulted in significant damage across the country. Roads are collapsing, dwellings are being flooded, and agricultural products are also suffering property damage.
According to reports from Incheon on the 19th, a total of 13 cases of rainfall damage were recorded in Incheon from midnight to 9 a.m. A heavy rain warning issued earlier for regions including Ongjin in Incheon and inland areas was lifted at 7:30 a.m. The city of Incheon is currently restricting access to four roads, 12 rivers, one walking path, and one parking lot as of 9 a.m. on the same day.
Earlier, around 2:44 a.m., three people from one household evacuated due to flooding in dwellings in Nonhyeon-dong, Namdong-gu. Around 3 a.m., loose soil caused temporary measures to be taken between Incheon Subway Line 2 from Incheon Grand Park Station to Unnyeon Station. Around 6:30 a.m., a road collapsed in Woe-ri, Yeongheung-myeon, Ongjin-gun, Incheon, leading to restricted access to the surrounding area.
Busan also experienced damage overnight due to rain, including flooding, toppled street trees, and potholes, with a total of 11 reports of damage received, prompting the fire authorities to take safety measures. Around 6:41 a.m., exterior materials adhered to the wall of a villa in Daejeo-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan, fell to the ground. Fortunately, there were no casualties since no pedestrians were present at the time.
As of the 16th, the heavy rains have submerged crops spanning an area equivalent to 28,000 soccer fields. According to initial investigations by local authorities, the scale of the flood damage from these heavy rains was provisionally assessed to involve 20,090 hectares (ha) of crops, including rice and beans, as of the 18th, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on the 19th.
Submerged crops primarily consist of rice (17,519 ha) and beans (1,559 ha). Other affected crops include perilla leaves (184 ha), strawberries (182 ha), watermelons (124 ha), green onions (94 ha), melons (86 ha), sesame (66 ha), and peppers (63 ha). Livestock losses included 830,000 chickens, 43,000 ducks, 60 cattle, and 829 pigs, according to provisional estimates.
