On the 17th, a flood warning was issued at the Dorimcheon SinDaebang 1 Bridge point in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul.
The Ministry of Environment's Han River Flood Control Center issued a flood warning at the SinDaebang 1 Bridge point as of 9:20 a.m. on the 17th. It added that the river level is high, creating concerns for flooding in low-lying areas and river overflow, and sent a disaster text message to nearby residents advising them to "prepare for potential damage."
Flood advisories are divided into flood warnings and flood alerts. The Flood Control Center issues a flood warning if the water level is expected to exceed the warning flood level (50% of the planned flood volume) and changes to a flood alert if the water level continues to rise above the danger flood level (70% of the planned flood volume). Flood advisories are issued mainly for each bridge and vary by point depending on the bridge height.
According to the Han River Flood Control Center, the water level at the SinDaebang 1 Bridge point maintained around 80 cm between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. that day, but sharply increased afterward, surpassing 2.5 m by 9:30 a.m.
