The police are conducting an investigation after a worker was found dead inside a manufacturing machine at Hansol Paper in DAEDUCK, Daejeon.
According to the police on the 17th, the wife of a worker in his 30s, referred to as A, reported at around 11:56 p.m. the previous day that her husband had not returned home.
The police determined through location tracking of A's mobile phone that he was at the factory and analyzed CCTV footage from inside the factory. They confirmed that A fell inside the machine through an access hole while transferring defective products or waste paper into the pulp manufacturing tank at around 3:30 p.m. the previous day. A was a full-time worker in the processing part of the production team at the paper mill.
A colleague who worked alongside him claimed not to have witnessed A's accident. The colleague reportedly stated to the police that 'the work shift change was approaching, and they thought A had left work early.'
The police plan to investigate factory officials and others on charges of negligent homicide in the workplace. Labor authorities are also looking into violations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act at the business sites.
