Minister Kang Sun-woo, the nominee for the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, apologized again for including his name in the Democratic Party of Korea's statement that referred to the victim of the late former Mayor Park Won-soon’s sexual harassment case as a "victim complainant."
Kang responded on the 14th at a confirmation hearing at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, to a question from People Power Party lawmaker Seo Myung-ok asking, "Did you deem the term 'victim complainant' appropriate?" by saying, "It is not appropriate to refer to the victim by another name."
He mentioned that it was an "inappropriate expression" even when looking back at it now, and in response to a question about whether he had any intention of apologizing to the victim, he said, "I apologized back then, and I apologize for the harm suffered by the victim."
In response to a question about whether he intends to meet directly with the victim to help her return to daily life, he stated, "The victim's side's opinion is also important regarding the meeting," adding, "I will comprehensively review it."
Meanwhile, when asked about his thoughts on making the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family a commitment, Kang replied, "I believe that we should not use inequality as a political promise or engage in gender division for political purposes."
